would like your opinion - decorating help
Hi -
we just got a taupe couch from Raymour & Flanagan and so far I have gotten these curtains (black/taupe striped).
do you recommend a solid or patterned rug?
rug size will be 5x7.

Hmmm. I would like to say pattern to liven it up a bit, but I also think it depends on all the accessories/pillows you get. You defintely need a splash of color in the room, what other color are you thinking of using?

id consider different window treatment colors.
see this pic- stiped panels but everything else is solid.
i think it works but like PP said, you need the opportunity to bring more color in.
something softer would work better imho.
id do a copy of this room

You read my mind 
To the OP, the drapes you chose limit you to what you can do with the room (not to say it's not possible) but being that we all like to constantly change the room around, I would stick to something fresh and neutral and leave the color to the accents in the room that are easier to swap out :)
