would a boy like this?

we only buy gift for kids; then the adults do a white elephant for christmas eve.

my second cousin is a 12 year old boy who is in LOVE star wars.

two years ago, his aunt gave him a zipper hoodie hat zipped up through the actual hood and looked like one of the characters of the movies. he went bonkers.

this year has been a little chillier than the usual here in socal. the boy's immediate family likes to go camping and such... again, even in socal, it gets cold out there.

so, i just finished knitting him a star wars themed beanie

i still have to weave in the ends and block it.

as soon as i finished it, i was told that boys, especially boys that age, would hate such a gift.

am i being stupid for thinking a 12 year old boy would like this?
should i just go get him a visa gift card and be done with it?

all of a sudden, i feel like such a loser.
yes, i recognize i sometimes put too much weight on what others say.

That's a really good question.

At 12, I think it could go either way and would depend on the kid. If he was 9 or 10, I'd say definitely yes. At 12, some kids are really into fitting in, so maybe not.

I would ask his mom if that's possible? If not, just use your judgement based on your knowledge of him I guess? Can you get him a small gift card in addition either way in case he is not crazy about the hat?

Cool hat, by the way. I knit and can't imagine how the heck you spelled out words in there!

I think he would love it. Last year my nephew - now 12 (big football fan) wanted a ski/knit hat for his favorite team. He wears it a lot

I think he would - especially because the hat doesn't look 'homemade' (which is what i think boys that age may object to)
and its star wars.. so how could he not like it?

My son is 17, a star wars junkie, and would love this, so I say yes!

Re: would a boy like this?

thanks everyone.

i asked the boy's mom and she said he'll love it.

also, the person who told me that kids don't want my knit items apologized. she misspoke and corrected what she meant to say.

ps. shame on me for doubting myself and my knowledge of the kid based on what someone else said.

i will be happily going home tonight to wash and block it... some of the stitches are a little wonky and it needs a good bath before wrapping it up for christmas.
