WORST HABIT-bottle in crib???

OK DS is 17 months and ...ill just say it....

He takes te bottle in his crib to sleep...I know this is a terrible habit....he doesnt really take tha bottle during the day-he uses a cup and straw...

I tried tonight to give him the bottle while he was playing but he just chewed it and dint drink it so I put him in crib without it...he cried such a pathetic whine for his "ba" I gave in...I NEVER give in but its his security and I dont want him to feel inseceure...any advice???

Re: WORST HABIT

IMO your only option is cold turkey. I know that sounds harsh but if you can handle about 3 days of misery, it will be over.

I never gave DD a bottle in the crib, but when she had the stomach flu and dehydrated we started letting her have a sippy cup with water in bed. She's 2 1/2 and still sleeps with it (it's full when she wakes up) so I know it's security. Can you switch the bottle for a sippy with water??? There's nothing wrong with letting him have water.

Maybe give an empty bottle so he loses interest?

Re: WORST HABIT-bottle in crib???

I started just putting straight water in DS bottle-he hates water and he eventually didn't need it to fall asleep. Now on his night stand he wants a sippy cup there but it just has water in it. Sometimes he will take a sip (I think in the winter the heat dried him out) but I think he just likes to know its there.
Good luck!
