Worried re: spotting and crampiing

I am 5wks (as of Wednesday) and for about a week I've had brownish spotting with cramping. The cramping comes and goes as does the spotting. Sometimes it's dark brown spotting, and sometimes (usually toward the end of the day) it gets darker red. I went for an u/s on Wednesday and they were able to see the sac, but nothing else. The tech said most of the time it's too early. But I'm SO worried because of the cramping and spotting. I had an internal and my doctor said that it seemed to be dried blood, most likely from implantation... which I find hard to believe since it's STILL happening. My cervix is closed, which is a good thing, but I'm still freaking out. They said i could go back in a week, or wait two for a more accurate reading. I chose to wait the 2 weeks and I'm going back on July 1st. I can't stop worrying though and it's making me crazy. I know that whatever happens was meant to be, but I'm still really upset that theres a good chance of a mc. I know the only thing now I can do is rest and wait, but I wanted to know if anyone else experienced cramping AND spotting which later corrected itself Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: the spotting is only seen when wiping.

Spotting is normal for some people in the beginning. It's a good sign that your cervix is closed and that it's mostly brown blood off and on. Just try to rest, drink lots of water and keep hoping. I will be praying for you!Chat Icon

I spotted in the beginning and had MAJOR cramping until about week 7... it's normal- but hard to tell between what is good and what is bad.

I had cramping and spotting for a few weeks. I was monitored almost weekly at the beginning b/c I had IUI done. RE kept telling me it was normal. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Worried re: spotting and crampiing

I also had spotting and cramping. The spotting corrcted it's self in about a week..so I was 6wks when it stopped, but the cramps lasted until about 8wks. They were really intense and I took tylenol for it. I'm now 9w4d and everything looks great w/Peanut. It is hard to relax. I understand 100%, but the best advice I can give is to rest, relax, drink LOTS of water, refrain from s e x, and just baby yourself. Good Luck!

Thanks ladies!

Well, I spent ALL weekend on the couch and haven't had any cramping at all other than back pain from being in the same spot for such a long time LOL
Spotting has tapered although there is still some, but no trace of any shade of red, so I'm feeling better about everything. Just a waiting game til July 1st I guess!Chat Icon

I am surprised your doctor hasn't told you anything about the cramping being the uterus growing. Cramping especially during the early weeks of pregnancy are totally normal. I thought i was getting my period because of the cramps, before taking the pregnancy test and finding out i was pregnant. The spotting can be totally normal as well, especially if its not bright red...at least thats what the doctor told me. I wouldn't worry...but of course easier said then done.
