Working parents and pre-schools

Hi! I was just wondering what those of you who are working parents have done as far as pre-schools... My DD turns 3 in June so I was looking at programs for September. Some of them have before/after care which I would need, but then I would have to worry about summer/breaks... also in case they have an accident they're not allowed to change or help them (still working on potty training her)... My DD goes to a home daycare now but although they say they do "school" a few mornings a week I was looking for a more academic component.

Re: Working parents and pre-schools

My DD did the Pre K program at her daycare.
It was however many hours of Pre K curriculum in the morning and the rest of the day was normal child care.

ETA- it ran all year round as a daycare center and there were no rules about potty training either as they were a daycare center.

I also did Pre-K at his day care which was a center. For the summer we did camp at the Huntington Y starting at 3. For the camp you had to be potty trained but for the day care he did not have to be.

DD will do pre-k at Daycare. I don’t think there is another option for working parents unless you have a babysitter who can pick up/drop off and then stay with the child until someone gets home.

i think most daycare centers have a pre-k component once the kids get to a certain age. they do pre-k academic stuff in the mornings, but it also operates like a daycare center so the kids can stay full day if you need, and no potty training "rules"

We did pre-K at a daycare center. They have a camp option for the summer as well.

DD will be attending a pre-k at her daycare as well. It just makes sense and preference is given to children who have been in the daycare previously.

We did a full time babysitter and a half day preschool to keep costs down. Our hours started too early and were unpredictable in the evening.

DS is in his daycare for pre-school and pre-K. The program is amazing, the hours are perfect, and he's with the same kids he's been with since he was a baby.

Re: Working parents and pre-schools

My dd has always done 2.5 hours of school (2 days and now 5 days) and the rest of the day with a babysitter. She drives her back and forth.

Re: Working parents and pre-schools

We moved dd to a local catholic school with a 5 day full day nursery and pre-k that also has after care. This only worked for us because I work in the public schools, my husband works in the colleges, ans our parents live locally so between us all, the days off are covered. Otherwise, imwpild have kept her in her daycare where she was at from 9 mos-3 years.

Ok interesting... Seems like the problem is I'm not in a chain daycare but a home daycare. They say they do "school" but I don't know... I think of school as more of a structured classroom setting.

It would be no issue if I was a teacher because our local catholic school has before/after care but it's just the breaks/summer i'd have to worry about. The only break I get off for my job is between xmas and new years.

Thanks for the feedback all.

Where are you located? I know there are some pre-schools that have full day and aftercare near us. We go to a daycare that does a school program, but my DH's cousin used a home daycare and then moved their daughter over to a full day pre-school when she was 3 which they really liked. I think the ones that have full day programs usually also have summer camp, because they're trying to cater to working parents.

Also, when it comes time for Pre K, (age 4) I don't think home centers offer accredited Pre K programs.
You would probably have to go to a school or center for that. Not sure if your districts offers UPK.

My son went to daycare.. yea at 4 they did “pre-K” things but it was a daycare and no where near like a structured pre-k in school.

If you're near Farmingdale or travel towards that area, Dilly Dally PreSchool has before and after care. http://dillydallyfarmingdale.com/
