Working moms- preschool!?
So these past few days I have been seeing many first day of preschool pics. Really cute, but it gets me confused because some of these people are working moms. Please excuse me if this is a stupid question but I have no clue. I thought if a child was in daycare you don't really need to send them to preschool? Am I wrong?
My daycare has a preschool curriculum in it; do not all Daycares do this? Or is there something I'm missing keeping my dd in daycare?

Re: Working moms- preschool!?
I know the daycare my children went to also had a preschool, pre-K and a kindergarten. Even though it's a daycare they switch up the rooms the week after camp and before school. They still have a "1st day" of school even if the kids have been there all year round. Kids move up classrooms. Maybe the moms are posting pics on the daycare's first day of them in the new class.

That's true!! Never thought of that. Thank you! I just got so confused. And then I started questioning myself. Should she be in actual preschool not daycare, is there something I'm missing, etc.

all of this I posted DD first :official: day of Preschool ... I made sure to include official since she has been there since she was 12 weeks old, she still is in the same classroom since summer and technically they decided to move her to preschool mid year last year

Re: Working moms- preschool!?
Some preschools have daycare hours (ours does).
Some working moms send kids to preschool & have a babysitter.
Lots of different ways to do it...
I asked our babysitter to take the "first day" pic & send it to me.
DS was confused as he was in the same class last year (mixed ages) & went to camp at school all summer.

Working moms- preschool!?
Our preschool has a daycare curriculum but, it also has transportation. My son was approved for UPK in our district so he's going in the afternoon to a local preschool as well (he's been in the same daycare since he was 11 weeks old, has been in the pre k program there since February - so I thought this was a good opportunity to expose him to something new).

DD just goes to the preschool and now the pre K program at her daycare. They have excellent programs. It's super convenient . She's at daycare from 8 am to 6 pm. I never took pics or called it the first day of anything because she has been there since 8 weeks old and she never stops going or has like a summer off or anything like that. So to me, it's the same stuff, different year. She just moves up a room in the building.

Some people will move their kids to an actual preschool and most these days have before and after care.
The daycare my DS goes to has a pre K program and he will stay there until K. They do run the center much like a school so it was the first day this week.

I know with my nieces and nephews, they went to a daycare that had pre school, pre-K, and kindergarten. My niece is in their Pre-K program this year. Their "first day of school" started yesterday. it's the day they actually start the school program that is considered the first day of school.

Also, preschool is free in some districts. I'm some instances it could be cheaper to enroll your child and have a babysitter for after care.

are you sure these kids are still in daycare and havent been transferred to an actual pre-school? that's exactly why I'm asking because I keep questioning myself. Should I take dd out of daycare and put her in an actual preschool? I don't know what the procedure is for this when pre school and pre k is included in her curriculum. I thought all Daycares were the same way.
Thank you everyone. This info is very helpful. I woke up this morning thinking crap did I make a mistake?!? Is dd supposed to be taken out of daycare by now.

As long as your daycare offers a preschool and Pre K curriculum, you should be fine. Why upset her by taking her out kwim? Plus it's SOOO much easier to have them in daycare where the hours are more suited to full time working parents. A lot of preschools are only a few hours a day- then what? kwim?

I agree. When the boys were in daycare I loved their preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten programs. Daycare opened at 7AM, but school didn't start till 8:30 or 9. I forgot exactly, but they had breakfast, played then the teacher came in and they started circle time, learned, had snack, art, outside play, learned more, lunch, either rest time or nap (depending on their age) then outside time, review and then daycare time again where they had free play, etc. Obviously not exactly that schedule, but since it was full day it was more spread out and DS1 learned so much. I am no longer a FTWM so they aren't there anymore. I also knew a lot bc I worked at a daycare when I was in college. For kindergarten since they had a certified teacher they ask the kids be there by 8:30 - 9 and get picked up after 3PM. Hope that makes sense. I also know some buses dropped off kids for "after school program" in the area. 1st graders to 5th graders and then around 4 they just stayed in the kindergarten class to play, do art, outside, etc till their parents picked them up. Closed at 6:30

i agree my district offered a UPK but its a lottery I didn't even bother to sign her up for it. its only for a couple hours a day it would have been more of a hassle to get her there and back plus my daycare offers basically all day pre school which I like much better.

I love it there so I never wanted to take her out. She's learned so much even before preschool age!!! They told me she's advanced for her Age which is nice to hear. So I of course never want to switch if I don't have to!
Thanks all!

Re: Working moms- preschool!?
some preschools in our school district universal pre k does an extended day. so the reg 2.5 hours would be free and then they would have to pay a monthly fee for the rest of the day. could be a lot less than daycare.

Working moms- preschool!?
Our SD has UPK so I did take my DD out of daycare and put her in UPK. Our daycare is small and even though they do have a curriculum they follow I felt she would get more out of UPK. I have a flexible schedule and my office is close to school and DC so I was able to pick her up from pre-k and bring her to day care after class was over.

A couple of friends have taken their kids out of daycare and switched them to an actual pre-school with a nanny picking them up after. Their daycares werent really schools. Mine is, so dd will stay till she starts kindergarden. So reason to mess up her routine.
