...do you also have a back-up person? MIL watches DD and although this probably wouldn't happen often I'm just wondering if most people have a back up.

I never really thought about it. I just figured I would take off the day if I had to.

Re: Working Moms - if you have a relative/friend watching your LO...

My mom watches DD 2-3 days a week. My MIL watches DD 1 day a week and my DH and I work at home 1-2 days a week.

Our backup is each other and sometimes my mom can cover for my MIL and vice versa.

If we couldn't work from home, then I would most likely need a back-up.

Re: Working Moms - if you have a relative/friend watching your LO...

My mom watched DS 3 days/week while I worked in the office, and then she got cancer. I learned that you ALWAYS need a back up. My MIL now helps out 1 day/week and DH and I work from home 2 days a week each. Our back up is each other, but I would like another alternative b/c sometimes it's a bad time to take off work for both of us.

My MIL watches DD and for the first time on Monday the 12th she's not going to be able to watch her... she will still be in NY and we are coming back that sunday.

My SIL's mom watches my niece at her house full time about 2 mins from my house so I asked her and she is going to watch DD that day.

My mom and my MIL each watch the kids 2 afternoons a week. When it does come up, which is rare, I usually call my sister and SIL to come to the rescue. And if need be, DH can always take the day off.

my SIL is an au pair to kids who are now in college on the upper east side so we could drop him off with her in a pinch, but thus far I've been taking off when the need arises.

I don't have a specific backup per se but we are very fortunate to have several family and friends who could help out in a pinch. But, my case is a bit different since I only need someone to watch DDs for a couple of hours from the time I leave for work until DH gets home.

Re: Working Moms - if you have a relative/friend watching your LO...

We just ran into this situation, my father is sick and my mother watches DD, luckily my SIL took off last week to watch the baby but I had to find alternates and found a local day care that does daily sitting should we need it (the thought kills me though) and we found MIL's best friend's daughter that is a teacher and off for the summer that we are going to meet with for those cases we need someone for an emergency.

Re: Working Moms - if you have a relative/friend watching your LO...

My mom watches DS, and my dad is her backup. My parents are technically both home with my DS during the day, but my mom is the one who cares for him. If she has to go to a dr. appt, then my father takes over watching DS.

Otherwise, one of us will have to take off of work.

For an extended period of time, I don't know what we'd do.

My mom watches DS 3 days a week while I work. If there's a problem then DH or I take the day off (usually DH since he gets for PTO).

My parents watch our ds 3 days a week. We don't have a backup person, but DH has tons of sick & vaca time banked so he can take off when needed. We're also lucky in that we both work locally & have flexible jobs, so if we know beforehand we can usually schedule around it.

My MIL watches Landon while I work p/t. I used to have tons of back-ups, but due to deaths and health problems I don't have many choices now. My job is flexible so I am usually to switch my work days around if I cannot find someone.

My MIL watches DD 1 day a week and she goes to daycare the other 2 days.

On the rare occassion my MIL cannot watch DD, I have the option to send her to daycare that day (obviously, I have to pay for the extra day though).

We have a friend who babysits DD. My mom's company has a wonderful daycare center that you can use in emergencies. So, she's registered there if the need be. Otherwise I would probably take off.

Re: Working Moms - if you have a relative/friend watching your LO...

my mom watches the girl on morning a week and mentioned this to me the other day.

as of right now, we don't, but I plan on asking the girl at the gym (amelia's gym) if she wouldn't mind watching them if we ever needed her.

Re: Working Moms - if you have a relative/friend watching your LO...

My MIL watches my kids. When it was just my son, my Dad was the back up or, my sister over the summer. Also, my job used to have emergency back up day care but they don't anymore.

Now that there are 3 of them, my Dad can't watch them and my sister now has 2 kids so add my 3 and I'd think she would run away!

So, I took time off when we had those snow storms and now, if my MIL needs a day, I have 2 pay for babysitters that I use. One a college student and one a high school student.

my mom watches DS 2 days, the other 3 he's in daycare. My back is that I either take off from work, or bring him to daycare last minute.
