work shower drama

so at one of the school's i work at, one of my co-workers wanted to throw me a baby shower. She asked me which date would work best for me (b/c of my schedule) so she could start planning, so today i see her and she looked upset, so i asked her what was going on and it turns out that the teacher whose room i see children in decided to plan a surprise shower for me, even though she knew my co-worker wanted to do it and was already in the process (told people the date, etc), the two of them do not get along at all, so my friend thinks the teacher was being vendictive. So to make a long story short, my friend is not going to come to the teachers party, and just going to let her be the one to do it, b/c its stupid to have 2 showers and if she also had one, it would make the poeple we work with uncomfortable b/c they would have to choose between the two of them. It just sucks b/c she has been so good to me through the year, and i would have liked to have celebrated with her. the only thing i can say that i dont agree with that she did, was she showed me the invitation to my surprise shower, so now i know when it will be (i think she did it to ge tback at the teacher) but i really didnt want to know, i am just having horrible shower luck here b/t my family one and the work one

Women get really catty sometimes, especially about parties, weddings, showers and babies. I'm not sure why. It is a joyous occasion and should be treated as such. Ask your coworker to attend the other shower and explain to her that it means a lot to you. I wouldn't want any of my friends or coworkers to think they weren't welcome because someone beat them to the punch so to speak.

Even though she's upset about the teacher throwing you a shower- she needs to suck it up and go! I can't believe she's going to punish YOU because she's mad at the other woman. And to tell you the date was pretty low as well- she really seems to want it to be all about her......

well she decided to switch her day at work that week, so she can just tell the techer she wont be in, and she kept saying all day how shes going to get me such a nice present now, only from her, etc. It's sort of wierd and uncomfortable to hear too, like what do i say, thanks for letting me know i'll be getting a present

I agree - she should go. I also have to say that I think she was wrong to share all of this info with you. You do not need to know about the stress that goes on behind the scenes - this is supposed to be a happy time for you and it's supposed to be drama free! If I were her, I don't think I would have mentioned it at all - at least until after the shower had passed....

Why is it that when it comes to weddings, showers, and the like people always tend to loose track of what is important!!!! UGH this used to happen all the time in my family...
