Work Party Idea Help
I am part of the planning committee for our social events at work (large law firm) and I've been tasked with coming up with a theme and invite for a staff party while our partners are away at a big annual conference. It's low key- beer/wine/some snacks. My boss was tossing around the idea of "when the cats away the mice will play" but I'm just... coming up blank. Any ideas?!

When you say a theme, is it just a name to call the party something, or fully a theme where there will be dressing up, themed decor, etc.?
I used the work for a large law firm as an attorney, and we had so many social events, but they would revolve around events (Broadway shows, baseball games, wine tastings... plus a weekly low key cocktail party in a conference room), not themes.
My current real estate company does a lot of themed parties, but for more formal events, like our annual holiday party. This year it was 70s/disco inferno, last year they did masquerade ball, one year they did black and white.
For a casual party, where you aren't having themed music and costumes, maybe something seasonal, like Spring Fever! or Spring Fling! Or if it's in summer, something summer related, like beach day? With beach drinks and beachy food/centerpieces.
Is the party in the office or at a venue?

Not dressed up, but a theme for the invites, food, and decor. It will be in the office, but we get SUPER into these events. One of the other offices is doing a "Bringing the Beach to the city" theme since the partner's retreat will be in Palm Beach, FL. We want something similar but not exactly the same. And we've had SO many parties that we've kind of done a lot of the basic themes- April in Paris, Luau, Beachy, sports themes, carnival, ice cream social, Grease (the movie), Cinco De Mayo... ugh It's so hard!

I like that one, too! I used an image of a guy in a suit on a beach chair for my invite idea. I sent 'em out to the big cheese so we'll see what she says! Thank you everyone! These ideas are all awesome, seriously!

These are awesome!! I knew you guys would come up with something amazing.
They don't want to do tacos because they are also doing something for Cinco de Mayo- a lunch for the staff or something.  They're killin' me!
They are talking about Cuban food and a South Beach theme.

Yeah, they won't let us play beer pong- plus it's a REALLY big law firm. It would be a sh!tshow. I'd love it, but they probably wouldn't.
I proposed a game night (The partners are away so let's play sort of thing) thumbs down. We have a wine down Wednesday every month with cheese and wine. Ugh they are so difficult.
Though I swear it makes it sound like we party all the time in my office. We don't! I promise!
