work
i know this has been asked before, but has anyone switched careers mid pregnancy? i know the most logical thing is to stay where i am and leave after my maternity leave, but this job is literally killing me. any advice?

I changed jobs while I was on Maternity Leave. Best decision I ever made!!!

no... but if you change jobs during your pregnancy you most likely won't be eligible for maternity leave and won't be able to get FMLA. Can you stick it out till the end?

that's most likely what i'm going to do, but i keep hoping... i figure if i see something amazing i'll go for it and if not i guess i'll have to stick it out. it's just going to be a hell of a year...

It's been a rough year for me as well. I started a new job that I wasn't crazy about back in early January way before getting pregges. However, I am sticking it out to keep my benefits and they even worked out a better position for me for when the baby is born so I can work from home a lot of the time and still keep my same pay. I think with all the changes going on with us because of the pregnancy, it's normal to think about changing careers/jobs. I would wait though. I had a friend leave my current job when she found out she was pregnant. When she started the new job, she was out sick a lot with MS. Well, the job ended up firing her and claiming it was "a lay-off due to lack of business coming in" but she really thinks it's because she told her new employer the real reason she was feeling sick all the time. I think most employers are going to think twice about hiring a pregnant woman.

yeah. i mean i know this hatred of my job isn't pregnancy related - i've been wanting to leave for a long time, but was sticking it out b/c they're paying for my masters. now it doesn't even seem worth it b/c they extended my service plan by 1/2 a year (for no reason other than pace doesn't want us taking more than one class over the summer) the professors are awful (pace signed up for the program before hiring enough staff and are now using unqualified people), and i don't even want to do this anymore, so why stick around for the degree? i'm arguing with them about reducing my service plan back to two years so i'd be done by august, but either way i'm planning on leaving after my maternity leave.
i know i'm just going to stick it out in the end, but it's still not keeping me off of job search sites...

I keep my resume fresh, look at job ads and keep my list of networking contacts close at hand. I also have a "folder" saved on my computer of all places that look interesting that I may want to apply to down the road. Nothing wrong with that at all!
