Re: Wood floors
I would get as many estimates as you can! We got three estimates and the difference between the highest and lowest estimate was $1000! We got all of the estimates from recommendations! We have three bedrooms, living room, dining room stairs and upstairs hallway that need to be done! FM me if you want to know who I am using!

Re: Wood floors
My kitchen floor was a disaster!! Three layers of plywood and then tar paper glued down. We used:
Nassau Suffolk Floor Sanding (631) 696-1887
The floors came out really nice - no complaints. I forget how much we paid, but if I don't remember, I guess that is a good thing, b/c it couldn't have been too bad!

Re: Wood floors
I can't give you any recommendations (plus we also live in Putnam Co so unless you're from up here wouldn't really help) but my husband who is a carpenter reckons average price is $2.00 sq ft. to refinish hardwood floors. And I would say not to do it yourself if you never did before. DH was going to, even though he has construction/carpentry experience, but our friend who is a contractor said leave it to a professional that has done it before, if you mess it up it will show.
We saw in our penneysaver some guys that do it for $1 per sq ft but DH was a bit wary of that..unless the person comes highly recommended you may want to stick with $2/sq ft to be on the safe side. Good luck, please post pics before and after, I'd love to see how it turns out.
