Woke up and rental car has dent in it, what do I do?
We rented a car last night because DH was in a car accident (not his fault - he was hit at a red light). When he looked at the car at the rental place, it was a little dark, but he didn't see any dent. Today, there is a big dent in the hood, perhaps someone hit him, we don't know. What do we do? What is the best way to handle this?

call the rental place.
did you take rental insurance out? Or if you paid by credit card they may cover it.

Did you get the rental through your own car insurance? Maybe they will cover it.

Is it better to call the rental place before we bring it in?
We didn't take out their extra insurance and we are not paying for the rental since the accident wasn't his fault. The insurance of the driver who hit him is paying for it.

the rental place may know about it so give them a call. otherwise if they didn't note it, you will be responsible. and since you didn't take out the rental insurance, you have to put a claim through your insurance as if you had an accident.
this just happened with my boss-he didn't take the rental insurance out and he had to put a claim through his insurance company for someone else hitting his rental car.

Yep. That's why I recommend taking the renter's insurance.

Yep. That's why I recommend taking the renter's insurance.
Oh no! I thought that getting renter's insurance was just them trying to rip us off.  This really stinks! We are having enough financial issues because our car was totaled in the accident, and now this. Sigh.
