Wisdom tooth surgery - sick day or not?
I need to have a wisdom tooth extracted and will need to take a day off. Is this considered a sick day or vacation day?

I would think that if it is a day you are requesting in advance it would be a vacation day. I always thought sick days were for unexpected, calling out the day of type situations.

Re: Wisdom tooth surgery - sick day or not?
Depends on how your company defines it.
Personally I think it's a sick day because with anesthesia you would be unable to work. But my company believes that if something is planned ahead of time, it should be a personal or vacation day. (which is why I had to take a vacation day to get a biopsy even though I wouldn't be going to work because I had ice on me & well, I can't type while holding it). Can you tell I'm still irritated?
One employee made a stink about the policy because his chemo is scheduled & he cannot come in after. HR told him to lie about the day & say he was sick to be done with it.
This is a perfect argument why employers should have a bucket of time.

I think if you are seeing a doctor, or dentist, having a test or a procedure you should be able to use a sick day.
I'd put up a fight if I was told otherwise.

I'd say sick, just like any planned surgery.

do it on a Friday as you will want some additional time to recover over the weekend

Sick. I do that with taking time off for doctor appts too. We don't officially get PTO and it's defined but no one polices it.

I think it depends on how you handle your vacation days and sick days. For me I would use a vacation day because sick days I can carry over from year to year and vacation days do not.
I lose vacation days every year because I just don't take them all.

I think it depends on the company and how you handle it.
For me, it could go either way but would lean towards a sick day. I also use sick days for doctor's appointments.

I think, as others have already stated, it's really how the company defines what you're doing as to whether it's a sick, personal or vacation day. IMO, I'd say either sick or personal and that would be fine for where I work, but it could be different in your place of business.

When I had teeth pulled I took sick time. I recommend giving yourself a few days to recover.
