Do they have private rooms like NSLIJ does? If you delivered at Winthrop, how was your experience overall?

Yes, their remodeled rooms are private. I just delivered there 6 weeks ago. I was put in a new private room (def not as nice as Katz/Lij). I had a great experience with wonderful nurses and assistants. They are very very very pro breast feeding and rooming in so be firm if you aren't for that. I did both and still found them pushy. Food was okay, they had a dessert cart one day and snacks each night. My room was very quiet and peaceful and it was a calm experience. I was happy to deliver there (this was my 2nd delivery there)

I had a private room because my dr insisted on it. I found the nurses VERY pushy with the breast feeding and very stingy with supplies (diapers, formula). There were two nurses that were excellent, talked to me, helped me, were really nice to me. Two nurses that I didn't care for at all. My son peed on one so that made me feel better lol

I just delivered there this past Sunday. It was my third delivery there. Again, I had a wonderful experience. The nurses were so kind and helpful, always got me whatever I requested. I was put in a private room and it was very very quiet and calm for my whole stay. They definitely encourage rooming in and breastfeeding, but I already planned on doing both so I can't say whether they were pushy or not about it. I had a great experience there.

Similar for me.... Though my son didn't pee on any nurses, there was one I wish he had Chat Icon

I had my own room... Supplies were def meager (umm one pair of mesh undies a day?!! I got one pair messy and was forced to just deal with it basically. I found them pushy with the breastfeeding and this is coming from someone who exclusively breastfeeds, but even I found it over the top! Some nurses were awesome though. The food was great in my opinion, and I did get lucky and had my own room the entire time. I think above all, I loved that my son was placed on my chest before I even left the operating room from my csection and didn't leave my side. We all went to recovery together and everything they did (clean him up, footprints, etc.) was all done in front of me. Now that I've experienced that, I can see being very upset having it any other way!

I had an okay experience. I was in a double room with no room mate for 4 days (c-section). The nurses were okay. DS was in NICU which was on a different floor. Since I had a c/s I couldn't walk down to see him myself. I had to have the nurse bring me. On more than one occasion I had to wait and ended up missing his feeding. They always just forgot about me and were more concerned with taking my blood pressure than getting me to my son so he could eat! It wasn't an awful experience, but this time I'm delivering at North Shore and I'm hoping its better.

I also had an OK experience. This was 20 months ago. When I was there they didn't push BF on me (I FF from the start) but one of the nurses did complain that they were not made of money when I asked for more formula for my DS. Also, one of the nurses in triage gave me attitude while I was in pain during labor which I did not like. I did have my own private room though, with my own bathroom. Thank goodness... But once you see what the rooms look like elsewhere (like LIJ) you're like oh wow I'm really missing out LOL. So it makes me wonder for the next time around whether or not I should switch doctors/hospitals.... I really like my OB though and he's super close to my job but he is only affiliated with Winthrop.

Mine is only affiliated with Winthrop as well - it kind of sucks. I delivered my first 5 years ago and have heard various stories about how Winthrop has gone downhill since then. I kind of wish he had different options of hospitals, but I absolutely LOVE him and couldn't switch. (Mesbah by chance?)

I am hearing the same things... I don't go to Mesbah though, but also a solo practitioner nearby. When I visited my cousin who gave birth to her DD at LIJ the rooms were amazing compared to Winthrop... I am not TTC yet but researched just in case, and can't seem to find anyone affilated with that hospital though, in the area my current dr is at.

My first, I delivered at LIJ. The rooms are private, rooms are beautiful, nurses were great (except for one who was nasty) but there is always one of those. I had a bad experience with my OB and how my labor and delivery was handled, so I have since switched to another doctor. So far I'm loving my new doctor (who only delivers at Winthrop) but I have been recently hearing stories about how Winthrop has gone downhill and that I will probably have to share a room and nurses are not the nicest. It's upsetting to hear this because I'm really hoping and wishing for a stress free and comfortable stay after my repeat CS. Hope to hear more good stories about experiences at Winthrop. Anyone deliver with Dr. Plancher? That's my new doctor.

Re: Winthrop

I just delivered DS there on Friday. After reading things on this board, I was very nervous and even mentioned it to my dr at an appt. earlier. I had my first DS there 5 years ago and I didn't have a private room. At that point, they pushed bf on me and I never produced milk, causing DS1 to lose a lot of weight and almost not come out of the hospital. They took him back to the nursery every night but brought him to me for feeding. And when people came to see the baby, he was in the nursery. This time, with DS2, I decided I didn't want to BF and I wanted him to sleep in the nursery (both things I heard horrible things about). I had a C-section and right after (while they were tying my tubes and stitching me up) they had DH do Skin to skin contact. I was able to see him the entire time with DH - which was different from my first as well. Then, before they wheeled me into recovery, they put DS on my chest and aside from taking him to do a bath and blood test, he remained there until I got wheeled up. I was never told to try to bf once I had said that I would be ff. I was annoyed in recovery that they brought down two people that couldn't get a vein on him to do a sugar test (they had to do that because technically he was a premie). Anyways, once I was rolled up to my room, everything was pretty good. Not one person told me that I should be breast feeding. The night nurse I had for 3 of the nights was fabulous and even recommended that the baby go in the nursery. The first night he stayed in there the entire night (from about 11:30-6) and the rest of the nights, I asked them to bring him to me to feed. He was with me the rest of the time though (but would have taken him if I asked). They are stingy about stuff but whenever I asked, I always got what I wanted. In fact, one of the PCA's kept giving me a bunch of stuff to put in the bag. One time I called the nurse to give me formula and they forgot. I called again and I saw the PCA bring it to the girl next door. I called the third time and finally got it. I thought the food sucked and didn't really eat the entire time I was there and the snack cart only came around to me on my last day. I do feel they kinda pushed pain meds on me. I was trying not to take and they kept asking me (especially the first day) if I needed any and that I shouldn't be a hero LOL. The bed really really really sucked though! I still hurt from the bed. All in all I feel it was a good experience, especially from hearing such negative ones on here.

Re: Winthrop

I gave birth there in December and my experience was ok. DD was born via emergency c-section and taken to the NICU just a few minutes after she was born. I had severe pre-eclampsia so I actually stayed in a L&D room for two and a half days and then was transferred to a regular post-partum room. The L&D room was SO much nicer and I wish I could've stayed in that for the whole time.

My maternity room was ok, it was a double and I was given a roommate the last night I was there. That was rather annoying because she gave birth naturally and had her son in the room and a ton of visitors (to the point where they were pushing into the curtain). Meanwhile, I had a c-section, could barely move around on my own, and DD was in the NICU. Thank god that only lasted one night because I'm pretty certain I would've gone crazy otherwise.

The nurses were pretty good, there was one that I loved. My L&D nurses were awesome though and super helpful since I couldn't do anything on my own for a few days.

I will say this however - the NICU nurses were AWESOME. DD was in the NICU for 39 days and I couldn't have asked for anyone better to be handling her. They were extremely patient with us and our families and were so wonderful with DD.

Yes, their remodeled rooms are private. I just delivered there 6 weeks ago. I was put in a new private room (def not as nice as Katz/Lij). I was happy to deliver there (this was my 2nd delivery there)

Do you know if they will be remodeling all of the rooms?

I delivered there 15 months ago and had a good experience. I had a private room and thought the nurses were very attentive. One nurse actually knew I was so tired that first night, she told me shed let me sleep and not disturb me. They didn't push rooming in or breast feeding at all.

They did this to me too in the recovery room after my c section. My son was crying and they refused to give him to me, because they were too busy trying to get blood out of me (I'm a hard stick) and take my blood pressure.
