"winterizing" central air
hi ladies! can anyone recommend a company you use to ready your CAC unit for the winter weather?

We just close the ceiling vents and change the filter.

Ditto. We also got a bag from HD to put over it so snow does not get inside it.

Just go to TRU and buy one of those Disk sleds.
You just want something to cover the top to keep debris/snow and animals out of it. But you dont want to cover the sides.
The sled was recommended to us by a few people, one being the guy who installed our new unit last year
We have had CAC for 6 years and have never had someone come to "winterize" it. We have a lifetime filter so we wash it out, and close all the vents.

thank you everyone. Clearly I'm mistaken. I have not done anything in 5 years and I was told they should be serviced i.e., lines flushed, ducts cleaned, etc... maybe I heard wrong!

You don't have to "winterize" your central air system at all.
My DH is a mechanical engineer who designs HVAC systems (and is super anal about them, too). He hasn't done a thing to "winterize" our system in the years we've had it.
You can service your CAC system periodically -- but it doesn't have to be done before winter.

This is something you should just have done after a while. Just to prevent allergies and have it blow cleaner air. My MIL just had it done, it was the first time in a few years.
