Windows open in bedroom?

What age do you feel comfortable leaving a window cracked open a tiny bit in DC bedroom? Especially from an upper level.

We have Andersen windows throughout and the logo on the screen with a child falling out a window worries me Chat Icon

If you can open it from the top, that would be fine...

In the second floor bedrooms, I have them open from the top.

Re: Windows open in bedroom?

DD is 2.5 and I leave the tops open. I have locks on the side of the frame that prevent her from pushing it up even though she can't, it gives me piece of mind.

Re: Windows open in bedroom?

Do you mean when they are playing up there or sleeping?

Sleeping - maybe when they are 16Chat Icon

While they are playing - open from the top only but I make sure I hover and if I was going out and anyone else were to take care of them I would close them as I would be too scared.

We live in an apt., so we have to have bars. If we lived in a house, I would open the windows from the top.

Re: Windows open in bedroom?

We have a window stopper you can buy at home depot which we set so the window only opens about 2-3 inches. We don't have traditional double hung windows, our apartment building has the horizontal slider windows. Even for traditional windows I would use the stops.

DD's windows are cracked. But she is still in a crib and can't climb out.

Re: Windows open in bedroom?

DD has single hungs right now, but i just ordered sliders from work soon to be intsalled.
i would leave them open. she cant reach them and there is nothing under them for her to stand on...her room is huge so i have plenty of space to not have things around. also she dosent climb out of bed so she would never go over to them to try anything....second floor also so not worried about ppl getting in

so shes 2 and i feel comfortable for all the above reasons

we open from the top, and have a piece of wood in the top half so the bottom is completely jammed.

I open them from the top now.... but when they are 16, I am putting bars on their windows so they can't sneak out in the middle of the night.... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS' have to be open, there is no AC in his room so when it is hot out, they have to be.
