window lock question
I don't know what you call these types of windows, sliders?
They are the ones that open side to side instead of up and down.
Anyway, with all the talk about sleeping on the ground floor leaving the window open I was wondering if there are any locks or devices for these types of windows.
I bought something from homedepot which was a few bucks, but I find it pointless. They screw onto the base and allow the window to only open so far which is great, however it doesn't stop someone from outside to just slide the outer window.
If anyone has these you must know what I mean. There is the outer window and the inner window and the screen is in front of the inner one. If you unlock and open the window, someone from outside could easily just slide that one open.

Re: window lock question
It isn't a kit where you put one on each window? (front and back)

Re: window lock question
We have two sliders on our ground level floor and I DISPISE them! They are cheap vinyl that the previous owners put in and are falling apart. I don't think there is any way to secure them the way you are describing. We always lock them before leaving the house or going to bed. Our plan is to replace them with casement windows.

Re: window lock question
same thing with sliding doors. a two-by-four (smaller for window) cut to the size that you want to leave the window open. put it in the track. this still doesn't mean that an intruder wouldn't break the glass of a window or door if they wanted in that bad.
as far as i am concerned, nothing will disway a "bad guy" from coming in, not even an alarm system. these people have their plans all thought out and will get in and out by the time the cops come...
