Re: Wilmington/Raleigh, NC
I live in Raleigh. We moved here about 3 years ago. It was the best thing we ever did. We love it here.
My friend is a teacher here. She moved down from NY also.
What would you like know?

How hard is it getting a teaching job? DH is a gym teacher and is P/T here in NY and hates that he cant find anything. If he's certified in NY what does he have to do to teach in NC? My cousin lives in Morrisville, but I dont know much about the area.
I will ask my friend about this. She posts on here sometimes.
I recommend coming down to check out the area. There are a lot of great areas depending on what you are looking for. I am in North Raleigh.

I've found these forums to be helpful sources of info about neighborhoods in the area. There are TONS of threads about relocating NYers.

I am moving to Cary this weekend. Cary is like little Long Island-every store you could want in a 10 mile radius. Some older homes and lots of new developments. A 4 BD can be bought with bonus for 280-325k. It is very family friendly and a great place for kids. Schools are good.

Re: Wilmington/Raleigh, NC
I live right outside of Charlotte, but I can tell you this: My "interview" for the teaching position I have now was a joke. She took one look at my resume, asked how it was that I couldn't find a job in NY, and hired me on the spot!
Your DH will be just fine down here!

Re: Wilmington/Raleigh, NC
We were ready to build in Wake Forest (Raleigh area) when we got PG so we put it off. It was very nice there. The development/area we wanted skyrocketed in price so we never went back. We also looked in Clayton, which I really liked, but it was a little farther from shopping/highways than we would have liked. DH overruled me on that one. We liked Cary but at the time, they weren't building any new construction there, which is what we wanted, so we moved on.
I have never been to Wilmington but we plan to go at some point after the first of the year. I hear it's beautiful AND it's close to the water.
Good Luck!
