Will they let a baby fly without id?
Just booked our spring break flights. DD will be exactly 8 weeks old. Birth certificate is supposed to arrive in 6-8 weeks so we are cutting it close.
Can you board with no id for a baby?
Anyone do this before?

Yes
They don't ask for ID for DD and she's 6
I think anyone under 18 doesn't need ID

I think anyone under 18 doesn't need ID
Both our boys had passports as infants. We always showed their passports every time we flew. No one ever specifically asked. We just pull them out when we get to the airport along with our ids.

The reason why you need a birth certificate for a baby is to prove they are the right age for a lap child. Children under 18 who have a seat do not have to show ID domestically.
I've brought it numerous times for both of my boys, and was only asked once for each kid - both times when they were over 1 and walking around.
If you are concerned, I've heard they also accept medical records (my friend was given a hard time once on a return flight for not having her daughter's birth certificate, but she was above 1 as well).

But I can't imagine they would question that an 8 week old baby is under the age required to buy their own seat. I mean it's pretty obvious they are under 2 years old.

It's not required. Per the TSA website children under 18 do not need ID to fly domestically

I don't think they would either. But sometimes in some airports (not usually in NY) the people at TSA are sticklers to the law...

We've never been asked for ID, but I always have a photocopy of their birth certificate just in case. We've only flown domestically though. Obviously if it's international it's diff.

We flew with DS when he was over a year old, so obviously different age but he was flying as a lap infant. I didn't read the fine print saying we needed his birth certificate and they barely let us on the plane. For the flight home we had an emailed letter from our pediatrician stating that he was his stated age. So if you don't get the birth certificate in time, a letter from your doctor may suffice. I'm not sure if this is merely a policy or an actual law stating that id is required.
eta- This was a domestic flight to Florida. You may want to call the airline to clarify.

Now that you have say that I actually don't think we showed her passport when we just flew to Cali and she had her own seat. I brought it thinking they would ask for it, but they never did. Good to know for next time!

It's not a law- it's a policy of the airlines- because children who are lap infants fly free but they must be under 2 years old to be a lap infant/fly free- so they want proof that you aren't trying to pass your small 3 year old off as under 2 for a free flight.
If you are buying a seat for your child- you don't need any form of ID.
If you child is obviously an infant- like the OP's 8 week old- I doubt they would question that they are under 2 years old.

Both of my kids flew as lap children as infants (8-10 months old) and both times we were required to show their birth certificates.
At 8 weeks it *should* be fine, but they can and do ask for the BC.

I've flown with JetBlue 2 times in the past year with a 3/4 year old and a 1 year old lap child. I was never asked to prove the 1 year olds age.
