Wild Onions...
Am I the only one who gets a zillion of these things? I hate them so much and I can't figure out how to kill them!
They're so deep in the soil they're impossible to get out...and I don't want to use weed killer and kill everything else around them. I also missed the boat in doing it in October-December.
Anyone have any tips? They're in my grass now too!

Re: Wild Onions...
I found this online:
You can kill wild onions with roundup. Sometimes it takes multiple applications, but it will work. Be sure that you don't spray anything else in your bed while you're treating them.
I folded a paper towel and soaked it with roundup once and just wiped the stalks with it... and of course, I wore rubber gloves. I had a couple of onions in my lawn, so spraying would kill the grass, too. It worked.

Re: Wild Onions...
They're bulbs underneath so I'm thinking I'm just going to dig them out with a trowel. I saw the bulbs in the one bed last year and didn't know what they were so I left them, to see what grew. Now I wished I had removed them, but it doesn't appear to be that hard to lift them out.
Anything that people use Roundup on, I use vinegar on. But it will kill whatever is around it too, so I wouldn't do that in a lawn or too close to good plants you want to keep.

I am dreading cultivating the veggie garden this spring. They are all over! If I wanted Onions I would of planted them LOL!
I tried telling the DH they are weeds he is convinced I accidentally plated onions or the homewoners prior planted them!

Re: Wild Onions...
I have a backyard full! This year they're out full force...very difficult to kill, you pretty much have to dig them up or kill off your lawn. You can tell when our lawn has been mowed....it smells like onions from a block away! Lol

The ones in my flower beds, I try to pull up the bulbs while tilling the soil...but I still get them. They spread so much!!
ITA with the vinegar, my BIL owns a nursery and that is what he uses at his own house.

Re: Wild Onions...
I was out yesterday, getting some bed cleanup in before the rain today. It was actually pretty easy to pull them out. I just gathered all the stems from one onion together at the base and pulled straight up, gently.
After a rain, it's SO much easier to pull out things like onions or dandelions. Too bad we're not getting a break from this rain anytime soon.
