Wicker?

I remember reading in one of my books a while back something bad about wicker. But, I can't for the life of me find it now in my books - I don't remember what about it was harmful or where I read it. Now there is a wicker bassinet at PBK that I want to get and I am trying to remember this wicker thing...if anyone knows what I am talking abut...please help! THanks Chat Icon

Re: Wicker?

Yes, I read that wicker is sometimes treated with chemicals, but I too forget which chemicals. Most of the time you can smell it. But I'm not sure if it that applies to all kinds of wicker??

I think its also a chocking hazard since it can break apart when chewed on. (And yes, most babies would chew on it!)

Re: Wicker?

I did read something recently in Baby Bargains about the chemicals in wicker and I think the concern was that the chemicals might be released into the air in the room when subjected to heat or sunlight.

I can check it when I get home.

I think the concern was related to (lead) paint. Aren't most babies out of bassinett's by the time they are going to chew on it? I had a wicker bassinett (family heirloom) and my son was only in it for 6 weeks- I plan on doing the same this time around. He was in it to sleep, and when he was awake he was feeding or in a bouncy/papasan chair.

Found it, I have the 7th Edition of Baby Bargains - it's a small blurb on pg. 109.

If you have a different edition, it is in chapter 2, after the heading "Safe & Sound"

Re: Wicker?

I also found that cleaning throw up out of wicker is impossible.
