Why does it take her so long to fall asleep?
ANyone have any idea why it takes my DD an hour to fall asleep?
every night - no matter what time we put her down or what her routine is or anything is takes her an hour to fall asleep.
I wouldn't care except that during that hour I need to go into her room at least 10 times to stop her crying or panicking that her blanket is screwy or she dropped her doll on the floor, etc....
Its getting old.

You just answered your own question.
The reason its taking her so long is she has shaped your behavior.
she has figured out what will get you in there, and how long she needs to cry in order to get that to happen.
So, lets say you decided to wait 10 minutes, and then come in. A few nights later, you hold out for 15 minutes, and then come in - she will now immediately jump to crying for 15 minutes.... or if you held out for 20, etc.
My ped told me this, and I completely agree.
If all of her needs have been taken care of, its time to just let her cry and never come in. Never.
If you are consistent with it, then she will eventually start going to sleep faster - but, you will screw it up if you come in just one time - even after a week!

see the thing is -I am the CIO QUEEN - I have done it more times than I have fingers...so I get how the whole thing works - this isn't so much lilke that.
It's more like I put her down and then 15 min. later she will roll around and her fav. doll will fall out of bed. She wont get out to get it (thank goodness) but she cries for it. So I will go in give it her and leave.
Its not necessarily something she is doing on purpose - does that make sense?

Re: Why does it take her so long to fall asleep?
My DS is nearly 2.5 and we STILL have this same issue with him, only difference is he does get out of bed- I actually feel like it has gotten a little worse as he has gotten older...My DH thinks it is because my DS is so much more aware now and his mind keeps going that he just can't settle down...Sorry, I don't have any advice for you, but wanted to let you know, youre not alone

Re: Why does it take her so long to fall asleep?
jennifer, my daughter is the same way. we sometimes take 1-2 hours. we are on 1.5 hours tonight. its i have to go to the bathroom to i want milk, water. then she takes all her clothes off, wants her back rubbed. im tired of it. and i go in at least 10 times too. i have a new baby due in the next 2 weeks dont know how this is going to play out. i think im just going to let her lay nude an pee in her bed at this rate. dh thinks its ok to sit on the couch downstairs while i get stressed out.
i dont know if its common for 2 year olds but my daughter procrastinates. we tried different times for bed and it doesnt matter what time same thing.

Re: Why does it take her so long to fall asleep?
I think it is the age. sara is still in a crib and really does not like falling asleep in it,. She falls asleep in my room however it takes so long before she does fall asleep. Now, she is waking up at least 2x at night and wants me to hold her hand so she can fall asleep again

Re: Why does it take her so long to fall asleep?
well at least I am not alone I guess...i wonder sometimes if its time I cut out her nap so she is more tired at night - but the thought of no nap and fighting to go to sleep scares me!

MY DS has gone days without naps and he does seem to fall asleep more quickly but he seems to get up so frequently during the night when he does that...Its a no win situation it seems- hopefully they will one day fall in a groove- Until then

Re: Why does it take her so long to fall asleep?
We are in the same boat here. Sydney got a big girl bed a few weeks ago and DH got her to go to sleep by him laying down with her. I told him I wanted to break that habit but he felt that it took her too long to go to sleep otherwise. I now have been trying what the super nanny does and last night it worked. I put Syd to bed and walked away. She got up and walked into my room. I took her by the hand and walked her back, put her in bed, kissed her good night again and walked away. This happened 3 more times. After the 3rd time I didnt say anything to her and just picked her up and put her back to bed. She got up maybe 4 more times and I just kept putting her back. She didnt get up again but was whinning from her bed for about 20 minutes until she fell alseep. We were never able to do CIO but this seemed to work pretty well.Hopefully tonight will require less trips back and forth.
