Why do they have to grow up so fast?

So... it's come time to put Bella in the crib and I'm having all sorts of Mommy anxiety and sadness. She'll be 4 months this week and she's just getting too big for her co-sleeper. When she moves around at night she's hitting the sides and I think she wants to roll over but can't Chat Icon

I'm so nervous about putting her in the crib even though I KNOW she's going to be just fine. It's a comfort thing. I won't be able to just look over and put my hand on her back and feel her breathing, or just look at her in the middle of the night sleeping so peaceful.

How did you handle the transition? Chat Icon Chat Icon

We put DD in her crib at 7 weeks- I was getting NO sleep with her in the room. Every sigh or twitch woke me up. It was rough the first night or two (for me) as I kept going in there to check on her.

Perhaps try getting a video monitor- this way you can still *see* her even though she's in her crib.

I went in there 50,000 times the first nightChat Icon

I waited til Christopher was 3.5 months and once we started putting him in his crib he slept better (not longer, but better) and it is nice to have *our* room back, especially with DH's nutty work schedule.

I felt the same way. He could no longer sleep in the bassinet due to his size and weight. Since he was just 2.5 months at the time, I could not bring myself to put him by himself in the nursery. Even if it is just a few feet away. I put his crib in our room where one of our dresser was. We temporarily put the dresser in his room where the crib was. It made me feel better. I can see him from my bed.

I try to picture the same thing.. I don't think I will be able to let him sleep in his own room once he outgrows the bassinet.

That is why I told the husband, you are moving his crib into our room, lol.. He agrees as well.. Not sure when we will both be able to feel safe, comfortable to move him into his own room..

Re: Why do they have to grow up so fast?

because of space issues in our house we had to put DS in his crib in his room from day 1. For about a week or two it was really hard but then we got used to it. His crib is right on the other side of a wall to our bedroom. Plus we have a video monitor and SIDS monitor so I can basically hear every breath he takes. Something had to counteract the paranoia.

It'll be fine...good luck Chat Icon
