why do people bother asking sizes!
My SIL just sent dd a bunch of clothes for her bday. While I'm appreciative they are the wrong size. She asked me 3x and I told her 3T Ever thing I got was 24m and 2T. She asked how dd likes the clothes and I said thank you for everything but they are too small. 2T tops are a hit or miss with dd and the tops she got her are too short as are the pants. I wouldn't care but she always takes the tags off of everything too so I can never exchange. She went oops they looked big so I went smaller. My sister is thrilled because my niece just got a whole new wardrobe for free. We go through this every holiday.

Re: why do people bother asking sizes!
I would assume she's getting them free or really cheap. Maybe they're from a second hand shop? I'm guessing she gets what she hopes is the right size (maybe the pickings are slim and she looks for the best/newest looking clothes?). Then she asks you the size, hoping she got items that would work.
That would be my thinking if I were receiving gifts like that. Why else would someone ask the size then given the wrong one AND remove tags? I would never ever remove tags from a gift and I always include a gift receipt. Sounds fishy to me!

Re: why do people bother asking sizes!
LOL Want to trade? I have an aunt who REFUSES to recognize my daughter is small. She is now 6 and she's had clothes that are 6 & up since she was 4. Her pants are according to my aunt "Just fine.. just roll them up a bit from the bottom and the top and she's good" sure.. and her tops "just so she has room you know?" no.. having off her shoulders makes her look like she's wearing hand me downs instead of brand new. Just buy her size!!!
Yet I get the call "Should I buy her these shoes they are size 11" umm no she's an 11 & a half. how do they fit? "Her toes touch the top" why buy them? "For next year" Then heck no!
Same for clothes "what size did you say she was mija?" She's a XS, "Ok so I will get a large for later" what later? how do you know she'll ever fit into this "next school year" NEXT YEAR?! Ugh!
But each time I say thank you.. I love you.. they are great. She's with my aunt all this week for spring break.. this is day two.. they've been shopping THREE TIMES!
I can't FIT her clothes into the drawers anymore!
ETA: I have given away so much stuff with TAGS still on them because time came and went and she wasn't the right size or the season was off for clothes my Aunt would get her.

Exactly this. This is sooo weird! Why remove the tag? I can see removing the price but that is really bizarre. If I went through the trouble of picking clothes for somebody I want to make sure it fits and they like it. Otherwise it's money down the drain

That is so annoying that she took the tags off. I would call the store and see if you can exchange without the tag. Tell them it was a gift and the person took all the tags off

Yeah why on earth would she take the tags off of a gift? Who does that? ESPECIALLY since she knowingly went smaller than you had asked her to.
That doesn't make sense to me.

Ok You're supposed to appreciate a gift given regardless of the price tag WHEN THERE HAS BEEN SOME THOUGHT and/or EFFORT put into it.
To me, if you're asking what size my child is, and then giving me a size or two too small.........you didn't put any thought into that gift.
I'd rather you spent $5 on one shirt my child could wear, than $50 on a wardrobe that I have to give away

My MIL takes the tags off of clothes she buys for my DD and even for me and DH and it drives me nuts. Finally, I told her to please leave the tags on for DD since she grows so fast, etc. She started leaving tags on for DD, but still takes the tags off when she buys for DH and I and its usually the wrong size or style. I end up donating a lot of what she gives us. I just don't understand it.

The clothes are brand new, i would understand if they were used and then I wouldn't ever say anything. She does it to everyone Including my MIL. I've gone shopping with her for gifts and she will pull off the tag at the register so she doesn't forget. Her words.
we have all asked her to keep the tags on but never does. And she doesn't have kids so its not like she has a size comparison. And she always spends at least $100. She is also the person who buys off a registry but will always buy something that was already bought. I love her she's just somewhat off.
She shops mostly at Macy's and I've had no luck with returning without tags unless they have the item in the store.
My sister and I just swap the clothes because sometimes she buys too big for my niece so then I win but most time my younger niece just gets the clothes.

I wonder if that is an OCD thing. Makes no sense that you have all asked her to leave it on and she will continue to do so, even impulsively at the register . I guess if that's the case then it's the thought that counts... If you and other family have already asked, what more can you do kwim
Maybe tell her your dd had a growth spurt and say a size bigger lol. At least if she actually listens your dd has a chance of growing into them Eta: if she still buys a size smaller it will actually fit
