Why do I do this?

I had dinner with a friend and my anniversary came up. I mentioned that Dh is taking me to Florida as a last minute trip. She made comments that we are supposed to be saving for a house, and that we travel more than anyone she knows...(not in such a positive way). So I made excuses about why we were going. The truth is, we can afford it, and I have every right to go. But I felt bad about it, and I felt like I had to blame DH for the trip in our conversation. I am just an idiot sometimes!

How you spend your money is not her business. Now, if you were complaining to her about how you feel you'll never save enough for a house, then I could see her pointing out that maybe you shouldn't be taking a trip right now. But if not, it almost sounds like she is a little jealous of how much you and your DH travel. Either way, you shouldn't feel you have to make excuses.

Good Point! I do not complain about saving for a house. I do mention how we can't decide when to buy one...and when to sell our condo. It was just such a weird conversation, I felt like I had to create a reason as to why we were traveling again.

People can be mean spirited because they are jealous. They like to make you feel bad because they are lacking something.

You don't have to justify how you spend your money- and it's smart to travel now because when you do get your house you will want to focus on that.

You know what, even if you DO complain about money, she still had no right to say that to you. How does anyone outside of your relationship REALLY know what your money situation is anyway? She just sounds jealous. I had a friend like this who ALWAYS said things like that to me. If I had a new shirt on, she'd say, "Hmm, I thought you had no money? Where'd you get a new shirt?" When in reality, every time she wanted to take a trip, I told her I had no money because saying no was never a good enough answer for her.

only you and tom know how much you can afford to spend on a vacation - so tell her to bug off!
next time she has a birthday - just buy her a card and tell her you would have gotten a gift too, but you're saving for your next vacation!

With friends like that who needs enemies! It's none of her business. I've been trying to get rid of the "friends" I have that either judge me or try to force their own opinions...

Please enjoy your trip! I have, or should I say HAD, a friend like this. Jealousy is definitely the cause of it.

next time she has a birthday - just buy her a card and tell her you would have gotten a gift too, but you're saving for your next vacation!

It's funny because she isn't always like this. But I really did feel bad last night. I am not going to justify how I spend my money anymore. I work hard for it, and so does DH.

Don't feel bad...she can feel bad....while you're laying on the beach with a drink in your hand!
