Why can't this project go smoothly....help....

So they finally came to start work on the stoop, walkway and driveway but of course there's a problem.

DH went out to check on things and almost had a heart attack when he saw the crab orchard stones...mind you we are the first to admit that we have very little experience or understanding of these stones BUT the guys had put water on the stone in their process and the beige color was replaced by black spots. Apparently this is normal for the stone and fades when it dries but DH said it was really bad. So...

What type of stone do you have on your front steps? What type do people recommend?

mom has slate.... it gets hot in the summer (no bare feet if the steps are in direct sunlight!) and in the winter, a metal snowshovel can scratch it... but over than that, it's pretty functional and it looks good.......

Thanks everyone! DH found a mason yard in Freeport that has a large selection...so tomorrow morning before work I have to go check it out. He sees to like limestone.
