Why are they so clueless? DH vent! (UPDATE)
Back story: DH and I don't live near family and we have to make our work schedules around one another so one is always home with DS. We would love to have time together, just the two of us. His family lives over an hour away and they are our only hope of catching a break. But they can usually only come over on weekends and DH and I typically work weekends, so we are stuck.
So, DH has a Sunday off (very rare) and I have it off too. He says maybe he can have someone from his family watch the baby. (I'm thinking 'Oh my God! We are going to have a date!') Well, he wants to go to Ranger game with his friends.
His friends have season tickets. As if they can't get together on a weekday to go to a game. (I can stay home that day.) But we have a chance for somebody to watch DS and go out ourselves. Am I right to be pi$$ed?!?!?!
ETA: I said 'WHy do you need your family to watch him? I guess I'll be home. He said 'So you can have a day to yourself.' Sounds nice. But it means stay home and clean and organize.
UPDATE: I spoke with DH once he got home from work and told him how I felt. I told him I cried for hours and he said he never meant to hurt me. He then showed me the schedule of Ranger games that he could potentially make, highlighted. (He's a very organized man, gotta love him for that.) And it's true, there are only 4 he can make. He said he just looked at the highlighted games and didn't really think.
I completely vented to his sister before he came home, which was wrong. But once he came home, we had a good talk. He did, however, admit that he thought I'd like the day off for 'organizing' around the house. That still irked me. But his heart was in the right place, I guess. Now we are looking at going to a game together!!! (I love sports)

My answer would have been... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!
The only day together and he wants to spend it with somebody else. I would have had a fit and make him feel very very teeny tiny!!!!

YES!!! I'm sure DH would love some time with the boys but his wife should come first!! I would tell him that you would like to do something like maybe a dinner and a movie and that he can go to a game another time since they have season tickets...it's not like its a one shot deal.

All we talk about is wanting to do something alone. It's ALL we talk about as we have 5 minutes between shifts.

Men are clueless. I'm sorry you aren't getting your date!
Maybe take the day for yourself anyway though--it could work wonders. Just do something you enjoy that he wouldn't want to do.

Honestly, I have learned they just dont understand.
HE works hard Im sure and wants a nice day to relax as much as you do.
Would have been nice if he wanted to spend it with you yes, but aranger game is exciting to a man and I honestly think its just something I would roll with b/c theres gonna be way bigger fish to fry someday.

He does work hard. And I've had no problem when he wants to do things with the boys, because it's so rare with his work schedule. But he has many chances to go to weekday games. We have had 2 nights out (both weddings) and he's seen his best friend more than 2 times. In fact, one wedding was WITH his best friend. It's nearly impossible for us to have the same day off when anybody can babysit.
And damn it, he knows I want to go to a Ranger game too. I love sports!

Considering what little opportunities you have and your schedule, I think you have every right to be upset. His wife should come first.

I would be upset, too. Don't forget, you have the "lovely" 18 year old girl that you met when you moved in and she is right across the way and wants to babysit!!!

She's never stepping foot in our house. That's grounds for divorce.
