Why are photographers so vague with pricing?

Why are photographers so vague with pricing?
Looking for a newborn photographer and they all charge a session fee of $200-600. Then they say digital files and prints are additional with no actual pricing listed. I would much prefer that they charge $1000 or whatever and know how much it will cost and what we will get.
DH told me just to book the photographer I like best.

We just used Danielle Marti for NB photos. I found her pricing to be very upfront and reasonable. She includes 20 digital files so you own those images forever. Prints through her website are very reasonable. We are very pleased with our pictures. She did some sibling shots too, plus she was so nice and patient. She has a website and Facebook page.

I just had a newborn session with a vendor on here, Teresa Geraghty Photography, after another essentially ditched me last minute. Teresa is awesome! She came to my home & was so good with my kids. The baby loved her & he is hard to please-lol. I can FM you if you my pricing if you want but it's not vague.

Teresa is amazing- she did my DD's Christmas pics this year and they were beautiful and she was so organized, on top of things and quick to respond and to get the pictures to us.
I think OP is not in our area though.
But I agree, they should never be vague with you like that. That would be a red flag to me.
