Why are bathing suits so much $$$$?

March of 2011 I had my son, so last summer I was NOT about to wear a bathing suit. This summer I'm still up a size from my "normal" but I have an old suit that kind of fits. But since we're taking Safety Swim in a few weeks, I figured I'd splurge and get a new one. I started looking online and most are over $100!!! I usually go to a department store like Lord and Taylor or Nordstrom to shop but can anyone recommend a more economic option?

I would love something strapless (no tan lines), one-piece with some support (cups). A tummy control would be nice but not necessary. Can be basic.

I checked out JCP.com and there were some for $42. Great price but who knows about the quality? I might go check them out but I welcome any other ideas.

TIA

Try Target.
They are usually very nice, comparable quality to the pricey brands and very inexpensive!

Marshalls also has some nice ones at reasonable prices. I picked up 2 for $25 each.
ETS: I have purchased suits from JC Penney and never had a problem with them.

I hated the way my Old Navy one felt on my skin, idk, I am weird, it felt too clingy. I need a padded one and someone mentioned asos last week and i found some great ones on there, they were on sale and when it comes i will update. Really cute stuff.

I got a ralph lauren bathing suit from Lord and Taylor. I saw it for $120, and got it, but knew they were having their friends and family sale two days later. I brought it back with the receipt and coupon for a price adjustment. It ended up costing me only $60. I would see if you can find a coupon - sign up for them on line.

This seems like exactly what you described you are looking for!! I got it from Bloomingdales. It's outside of the price range you mentioned, but if you can't find anything else, I think a good suit is work the extra money. I wore this for the first time on a vacation a few weeks ago and LOVED it!!

Re: Why are bathing suits so much $$$$?

I just ordered a suit online from Lands End. I ordered it over Memorial Day Weekend so got it on sale plus free shipping. It was $70.00 for halter top, and boy bottoms.

I ordered it in black, and since it's a classic style, and decent material, I figure I will get several seasons out of it.

Walmart!! you can get a bathing suit there for under $20. I have a few from there and the quality is fine.
I've also gotten decent priced bathing suits at Marshalls and target.

Re: Why are bathing suits so much $$$$?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I'll just get out there and see what I can find. I love the Tommy Bahama one. I actually have 2 older Tommy suits and love the quality, but $140 is a bit much. Maybe if I can get it at L&T with a coupon I might go for it.

Thanks again!
