Why?

Why is it that when you find a house that is decent looking and comes with a decent price tag (relatively speaking for LI), it has crazy high taxes? I feel like I can look at houses forever and the numbers will never be good! It is so frustrating. And if you start out with high taxes to begin with it is scary to think they can increase every year!!!
