whole milk/2%/1%?

When did you switch from whole to 2% and/or 1%?

DS is 11 months- I give him 3 bottles a day. Weaning off formula and onto milk. I plan to give him 3 bottles/sippy cups of whole milk soon.

DD is ~2.5. I give her whatever milk is in the house (except skim) twice a day, and more if she asks. I still give morning and night.


DS is a big boy and a great eater. Any reason I can't just give both 2% so I don't buy different milks? I think my peds believe formula until age 1, whole milk twice daily until age 2, then 2% from then on.

Also, any reason to get off the morning/night routine of milk with DD? she likes it and is used to it, but I don't know if she'd mind if I just stopped but I don't think there is any reason to?

Kids under 2 need the fat in whole milk for their brain development. You should ask your ped for advice.

DD stopped drinking milk from about 15 mos to 22 mos. She suddenly one day asked for it out of the blue, and I only had 2%. She now drinks maybe a few oz before bed. She refuses whole milk, so I stick with what works for her

Whole until 2yrs, then Ped said she could drink whatever we drink which is skim.

DD is 18mos and has been drinking 2% since 13 months. She refuses whole milk. Like spits it out. She has full-fat yogurt and cheese every day, so I am not concerned.

DD will be turning 3 tomorrow and still gets whole milk most of the time. I buy 2% for myself, so if we are out of whole she will have the 2%

DS will be three in 3 weeks and is still drinking whole milk. He has had some issues gaining weight sinxe 2 years so I never switched him to 2%. Will ask the peds opinion at his 3 year well visit and take it from there.

DS is 2.5 and still drinks whole milk. He's in 50% for weight and 70th for height. Ped made no mention of switching as of yet.

Mine are 2 and 4 and still on whole milk - they get 2% daycare - but Sean especially is so skinny, he can use the extra fat !

We give DD 1%. She was never really a milk drinker (DH & I don't like milk either). She does get whole milk yogurt and cheese.

My kids still love their milk at 3 years old! We switched them to skim per our peds advice around 2 years old. They didn't need the extra fat from whole or 2%. They usually drink 2 cups in the am (or 1 cup and have more in their cereal) and 2 cups when we get home before/during dinner. At daycare they usually get water or very rarely juice (no juice at home though).

ds always gets whole at daycare/preschool.....

it must have been around 2 that I switched him to 2 - he started milk at 11 months.
