Which credit union?
i've been hearing that credit unions have better rates for loans and higher rates for savings and such
I am not a teacher and stupidly thought CU's were for teachers only
Which ones should i research to join
I'm very interested
Thanks!

We're members of Bethpage Federal Credit Union. You could probably join them - just go to the website to see what the requirements are.

Re: Which credit union?
I'm in Teacher's FCU and Suffolk FCU. They've been opening up the requirements, so it's easier to get in now than when they first started.
From Suffolk FCU's website: http://www.suffolkfcu.org/ASP/membership.asp
WHO CAN JOIN SFCU? Persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Suffolk County, New York. And, also included are, spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership of this credit union, employees of this credit union, volunteers in the community, members of their immediate family or household, and organizations of such persons.
Teacher's Federal Credit Union: http://teachersfcu.org/about_tfcu/fom.html
Membership Eligibility
TFCU is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution which exists to serve our members. This means unlike other financial institutions, we have fewer fees and more favorable rates, adding up to a great financial deal.
Once you become a member of TFCU, your family members can join, too, and enjoy the complete range of financial products and services we offer. And once you're a member, you're always a member no matter where you work or live.
Employees, students, family members and volunteers of the following Sponsor Groups are invited to join TFCU:
* SUFFOLK COUNTY SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES * SPONSOR GROUPS
Those who live, work or worship in designated areas of the communities listed in Suffolk County qualify for membership:
* Amityville-Copiague * Bay Shore * Bohemia * Brentwood-Central Islip * Centereach * Huntington Station * Lake Ronkonkoma
* Mastic-Shirley * North Babylon * Patchogue * Rocky Point * Riverhead * Selden-Coram * Wyandanch

Re: Which credit union?
I've worked for all 3 and the last I currently work for... here's my recommendation:
Bethpage Federal Credit Union.. Membership open to all Long Island.. Have every savings and loan product a bank offers but with higher didvend rates and lower interest rates on loans.
Nassau Federal Credit Union Open to select employee groups, so unless you are an immediate family member of some one who has an account there or live in the same household, it's a little difficult to join
Nassau Financial Federal Credit Union Membership open to anyone that lives, works, worships (must show proof), goes to school or volunteers in Nassau County.. Has higher dividend rates and excellent loan products..
FM me if you have any questions about Nassau Financial. Or any of the Credit Unions I have mentioned..
HTH!!
