If you think you are going to use less than $250 in utilities, which you probably will if it's a small apt, get the $1050 one...

I would say the $1300

is heat included in the $1050? cause that adds up
then electric and cable- you could easily go over $250

It's probably close. It depends on a lot of factors - size of apartment, how many people will be living there, and how they live (do you like the space warm, willl you have AC in the summer, do the occupants work all day or are some people home all the time, do you run a lot of electronics, etc.).

I think the benefit of the all included utilities is that you KNOW exactly how much you will be paying each month (and that you can stay within budget, assuming $1300 is within your budget), versus trying figure out how much it will come to with utilities.

Also, for the apartment where the utilities are extra, if it is in a private residence (as opposed to a building), and the landlord also lives on site or there are other tenants in other parts of the house, I would find out whether you will be setting up the utilities in your own name and getting the bills yourself. Sometimes landlords will assign some ratio (arbitrary, sometimes) and say "you pay 60% of all utilities and the upstairs tenant pays 40%) or something like that. In which case you are not in total control over utility usage/cost.

is cable inc. in the utilities? that alone is around $150! plus heating, water, electric and imagine once the summer rolls around and you need to pump ac?

I'd do the $1300 with utilities.

I have a small one bedroom apartment. I pay $130 for heat in the winter and $30 for electricity. Flip those around for the summer time when the AC is used a lot and heat is off. I have the cablevision triple play for $79 a month. Those three utilities are almost $250 and I don't pay for water. If you would have to pay for water, you would be over the $250 easily.

Depends what is included but I had to pay for the heat/utilities in my 1st apartment. It cost me way more than $250. My estimatiosn were completely off. Your heat bill will be as good as the insulation in the place.

I would get the $1300. Again, depending what is included in the utilities.

I agree 1,300.00 at lease you know what you nut is every month. If it's a hot summer or cold winter you won't have to worry about it.
