Where should I put the crate?

DH and I are bringing home our puppy in about a month and are beginning to puppy-proof our home. We are trying to decide where to put her crate, which we will leave her in during the day while we are at work until she is housebroken. We are deciding between the kitchen and the living room. My concern is that the kitchen does not get alot of direct sunlight. Does this matter, or will she sleep while we are away? Also, DH and I spend most of our time in the living room and will play with her here when we are home. Does it matter if her crate is in the kitchen?

Ours are in the kitchen, if that helps. At night, you should move it to your bedroom so your puppy can feel part of the pack. good luck

Ours is also in the kitchen, and we don't have any direct sunlight in there, but she sleeps most of the time anyway. We are finally slowly leaving her out of her crate for a few hrs. at a time after a year and a half, but I don't know how she will do during a full day out of the crate when I go back to work in Sept!

eta: she also sleeps with us at night.

I would put the crate in the kitchen since she'll probably sleep all day unless you feel it would be too cold in the winter with no sunlight.
I would avoid the living room since that's where you'll play. She'll associate the kitchen with relaxing which might help if you ever have to crate her while people are over in the living room.

Kitchen. Ours doesn't get much dirrect sunlight but she sleeps most of the time anyway.

it's recommended that the crate go somewhere "central" in the house where the dog can see what is going on around them if they are in there and people are home.

For example...in the kitchen or LR that way if the dog feels the need to be alone, they can retreat to the crate, but still be able to watch what is going on.

we keep ours in the kitchen during the day and in our bedroom at night
