Where did you buy your bookcase?
I find it surprising but we've been furinture shopping & haven't found many places that have wide bookcases. We need one that's sturdy enough for a lot of books. Anyone have reccomendations where we should try? Else we may have to buy one custom made.

We bought a very wide, sturdy one from Staples online. It's nearly 50" wide and it's 5 shelves and each shelf is like 2-3" thick.

I love Ikea furniture we have a few pieces in our house. We have an Ikea bookcase in the children's playroom. I like there bookcases & they do have one wide enough but it's not solid wood. My husband really wants a solid wood bookcase.
PotofLuck06 - I checked out Staples, they have nice bookcases but I didn't see any book cases wider then 36 inches, 60 inches would be perfect for us. Did you find your bookcase online or was it in the store?

Home Decorators Collection has a lot of options on width, height, etc.
They have an outlet online too - check it out.

Was just wondering if you thought to see how much Gothic Cabinet Craft would charge to have it custom made?
They do great work but IMO the dimesions are hard to find for what you're looking for.

I bought the raw material for all my bookcases at HD....  
So far, I've built 8 bookcases, and have one more to make for the library. One I made for my sister is about 6' wide. One is recessed into a wall.
