I don't know if this is the best advice, but 9 out of 10 times we put her down with a bottle and she usually falls right to sleep.

on the weekends when i want a nap i nurse tiny tot and she falls asleep on the bed with me. i can tell when shes sleepy so i put her in her crib. most of the time she will fall asleep pretty fast. oh when shes in her crib i always give her lovey she loves that damn thing.lol

DS is 18 mths and we give him a leap pad that has a couple of shows (blues clues, fresh beat and dora) on it. He gets excited for nap time and bed time cause he gets to play with the leap pad.

She goes in the crib awake. Sometimes she cries for a minute or two. Then she's asleep. Other times she's asleep within seconds of her head touching the mattress. It's funny actually - by the time I shut her door and go turn the video monitor on, she's already asleep.

He's awake, but tired. Always did it that way so he learned how to put himself to sleep.

A lovey is a stuffed animal, blanket, pillow pet that they love. My son has a stuffed monkey that he loves and carries around with him & sleeps with all the time.

Yep, he is put into his crib always awake. He doesnt really cry anymore. If he does, it is more of a whine that lasts 30 secs. DS is 13 months. Up until 8 months , i nursd him to sleep, but I wanted to get him out of that habit. We used the ferber method to nap train. It took a few days. Since then, he puts himself to sleep. I put him in the crib, and he will play with his mobile or sea horse until he falls asleep.

DD goes down awake. If she cries, it doesn't usually last much longer than it takes me to walk out and shut the door. If she continues crying and it's a real cry as opposed to just fussing, I will go pick her up. Going in to try to soothe her just makes her worse.

After I pick her up depends on what i think the problem is. If she's not tired yet, I'll try again a bit later. If she may be hungry, I'll nurse her and then try a little later. If she's overtired that's the hardest. Sometimes I end up nursing her to sleep but I really try to avoid that.

Thank you all! DD is 5 months. I nurse her to sleep every night. She doesnt nap well though. My DH is home with her and the only way she naps is if shes getting a bottle and falls asleep on him. As soon as he outs her down she either wakes immediately and cries or after 20-30 minutes at best and cries. I just read him some of your responses and shes rubbing her eyes and yawning a lot right now so hes going to put her down awake and let her cry for a bit. We just feeL AWFUL hearing her cry. How do you get over it? I feel like she thinks we are abandoning her when we dont go in there.

DS goes down awake. Sometimes he cries. Like a pp, I'll go in after a few minutes and check on him and leave again. If he's still crying after 10 minutes I take him out and try again an hour later. But that only happens like once a month.

My LO is also 5 months. I am working on naps big time over here. It's not easy! I put her in her crib awake. She usually cries. The past couple of days, I got back in after like 2 min, give her the paci, rub her back for like 2 min (she is now sleeping on her belly - there's no stopping it ), and then leave the room.

I won't let her cry for very long. I think it's still a bit too young for that. Right now, for the very first time, she is taking a SECOND nap in her crib. I feel really accomplished.

DD is 9 months and we put her down sleepy. Like Mazz said we dont really look at the clock we watch for cues. BUT, it just so happens she has a 3-4 hour wake time so her naps are usually the same time. Luckily for us they fall when shes due for a bottle so she gets the bottle and goes down awake. We trun on her FP toy and some days shes fine not a sound and goes off, others she will cry for a min or two then go off.

ETA: She is only 5 months!! DD didnt get the nack of napping on a schedule until around 6M.

DD cries before every nap. As soon as I lay her down in the crib and put her sleep sack on she gets a sour face and cries. She is 5 months an has 2-2.5 hours of awake time and then we put her down for a nap. If we wait ypp long pr miss the window she is a crabby mess and then reallu has a hard time settling. We put her FP projector on which plays music for 10-12 min. She usually stops crying after 5 min, but if she gets into a rage and goes past 10 min we have to go rescue her. We may rock her, feed her or let her nap in her swing if she is really protesting which happens once in a blue moon.

For bedtime she likes to nurse herself to sleep. She has done this since day 1. Sometimes we do a bottle at bed and then put her down which usually works well. But the naps are tough. I hate hearing or seeing her cry but I know it only lasts 5 min and she is out. It will get easier over time - I hope!!!
