When you found your house
When you looked at it (pre-purchase). DId you know this was YOUR house? Did it feel different than others? Or Did you think..THis is nice, I can deal with living here...meaning there was no spark?
I have walked into a few homes and only one have i actually felt like it was a house that i could see myself in...And this scares me.. I can't really be all that picky or can i?

Re: When you found your house
I felt like this wasn't my dream house (we can't afford that LOL), but that this is a house that I could see myself in. DH really liked it and he was way more picky then me and notices things I don't. So...we both kinda agreed on this one....so we made an offer the same day we saw it. It didn't really give us time to think about it too much.

Re: When you found your house
you can be that picky. when we were looking we saw MANY MANY houses, only 2 did i get that feeling with. the first one, we didn't get. but this one we did. i knew when i pulled up to the front of the house, this was the one.

Re: When you found your house
It wasn't quite a "spark" but more like, when we walked in, I felt comfortable, like, yeah, I could live here. The house was in terrible condition (aesthetically) - but I was able to see past that and envision how it would look if we made some changes to it... we looked at about 8 houses, and this was the only one that I felt really comfortable with... I kept comparing every house to that one... it also has a lot more to do with than just the house - the neighbors, the street, the area, etc... with this house, everything kind of came together

Re: When you found your house
well...i dont think anyone would want you to settle. you know?
i figure, for as long as you can/want to, hold out until you feel some connection. youll know when its worth a little sacrifice and when its not.

Re: When you found your house
Absolutely not...DO NOT SETTLE if you are not completely happy. You will find one that you like...picky or not. If you settle, you will be miserable. This is probably the most money you will spend at 1 time in your entire life...over 1/4 million dollars...you have to get what you love.

Re: When you found your house
I loved our house, but we put in a few offers on other houses - we would have been fine in any of the others. Our home feels like the "one", but that is because we made it OURS. I don't think houses are like mates, I think there are quite a few that you could make a home.
Plus I don't think this will be our forever home.

You CAN - and you SHOULD be! It's not like you're purchasing a pair of jeans that can be returned if you don't love them. It's good to be picky - as long as you're being realistic.
We've looked at 85+ houses...put in 5 offers. 85+ houses and only 5 were ones we could see ourselves living in.
It's frustrating, overwhelming and disheartening. But we're being patient...our home is out there. Somewhere

Re: When you found your house
I guess i am more nervous because we are selling as well as buying. In an ideal situation it would be great to do it all in the same couple of months, so we do not have to move 2xs. But we do have somewhere to go if my condo goes first. You girls are right....i should really be more into finding MY house as opposed to finding A house.
Thanks everyone

Re: When you found your house
You definitely want it to feel like "your" house as soon as you walk in. We did, even though there are some things that need work in the one we just went to contract on, we walked through the house thinking...this is so us! We also made an offer right away.

Re: When you found your house
We both had such a positive and great feeling about our new house. And since it was vacant and my DH is a broker, we were able to linger for a while. We really got to familiarize ourselves with everything and I became very attached to it!

Re: When you found your house
Our house was a complete DUMP when we first saw it and I immediately fell in LOVE! So did my DH. We made an offer on the spot. I fell in love with the stairs and the layout (not to mention the potential it had).

Re: When you found your house
Before we bought our condo, we looked at about 30 houses. I never felt like any of them were the "one". However, when we switched to a condo I knew when we found "the one". I couldnt see myself anywhere else.
Now we are going to start house hunting again this year, and I am afraid of the same thing.

Re: When you found your house
We only looked at houses that met very specific criteria and that we could afford (which, trust me, narrowed it down quite a bit!) Being picky before we even went to see it I think increased our chances of really loving the house.
The house I loved the most is the house we bought. But I really, really liked 2 others.

Re: When you found your house
Yes. and this was after we had gone to contract on 3 other houses (that all fell through for a myriad fo reasons). When I pulled up to the house there was a mallard duck on the front lawn, I cracked up b/c it was so strange. I saw the house in a pic & thought it was too small, but then when I got inside I just felt like I was home.

Re: When you found your house
We definitely did! We really lucked out. I truly believe that whatever is meant to be will be.. We were supposed to get 2 other houses before this one. The first one was really tiny, and the second needed to be redone from top to bottom. I truly believe they fell through for a reason! The house we are purchasing we fell in love with immediately..I think we got very lucky!
