When you are going through a heartbreaking time....
How do you let it go to be the best person you can be for DC?
I mean, one look at Cailen's happy, big smile evrytime he sees me does lift me up immensely, but I'm trying so hard to be the same naturally happy and bubbly person I always am, and I am in so much pain I can't function!!!

Re: When you are going through a heartbreaking time....
Honestly? I don't try to be anything other than what I'm feeling at that moment - I'll admit it, I've cried a couple of times in front of Alex. Maybe it's bad, but at the same time, I grew up in an environment where my parents sugarcoated EVERYTHING and the end result is I feel like I never had a TRUE relationship with them. As heartbreaking as it may be, sometimes it's important that our children see that the variety in emotions that we as adults feel, are normal, and healthy to experience.
With that said, I'm so sorry you're having such an awful day

I used to fake it, now I just say "I'm having a hard time."
I know Cailen is a baby but later on when he's trying to deal with toddler emotions, I think it's better for them to see that everyone has the same issues.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this

Re: When you are going through a heartbreaking time....
I cope by taking an hour or two of me time if I can, like a good run or stop at Starbucks and just sit and have a coffee. But really just holding DD and playing with her makes a lot of things better. I'm just so blessed to have her; a lot of things can go wrong but if I have her and get to touch and squeeze her I feel better!!

Re: When you are going through a heartbreaking time....
First of all, . It is very tough to function when you are going through a rough time and you know what? You're human. I had to convince myself of this recently too when I was going through a difficult time. I had to convince myself that it's OKAY to not always be "supermom". That you are not always going to be able to do the things you typically do on a daily basis.
Do you have someone that can maybe help you out this week with some tasks/chores or even help taking care of Cailen? I had an awful week last week and DH picked up my DS from daycare everyday (I normally do) so I could get things done at work and helped with things around the house. My Mom also came over one night. I of course felt guilty about it but I kept telling myself that I needed to take care of ME in order to be there for DS 100 percent. I still came home and took care of DS, but I also had some down time.
So if you can, try to fit in some time for YOU this week whatever it may be. Walking around the mall (maybe to the MAC counter ), going to the gym, book store, whatever you enjoy. And just know that your son loves you unconditionally, and that you are a wonderful mother !
I hope everything works out for you and you feel better soon!

Re: When you are going through a heartbreaking time....
landj gave you great advice
sometimes just a change of scenery, getting out of the house, going for a walk, to get your thoughts out, write things down, and most important, dont be hard on yourself.

Re: When you are going through a heartbreaking time....
I agree with what Beth said. I would not hide my feelings. I think it is very important for children to learn that it is OK to express their feelings and no need to bottle them up. What better way to learn that not everything is 100% perfect than to learn it from mommy and/or daddy?

I think it's okay to let your emotions show in front of your child. It's important to show children that it's normal and okay to be sad sometimes. I hope things start turning around for you soon.
