... do you write it as if it's coming directly from your child or from the whole family?

I typically always sign them from myself, DH and DD, but the cards I've gotten recently are all written in the 1st person of the child (and are therefore much more succinct! I always feel like I need to write a long message when I'm part of the signature). So, I'm curious to hear what everyone else does. In case age plays a factor, these will be for DD's 3rd bday.

I always write them from my daughter. She's 4.

Since my DD has been able to sign her own name (3rd birthday) I have been doing it directly from her. I just say "thanks for my ___. and one comment about it to follow" and then have her write her name (and that takes up the entire card anyway!) But I've had thank yous come to my house where the childs name was just printed on a sticker and thrown on there. It's cute if the child was actually involved in adding the stickers!

From me. Because then I can reference Julian and something he did. And it just feels funny to me to pretend to be him when writing.

Dear Dorothy,

Thank you so much for coming to Julian's second birthday party! We were so glad you and Jack got back from PA just in time to celebrate! Thank you for the animal figurines - they are, by far, Julian's absolute favorite! He specifically asks for them now each morning. We hope to see you next month at St. James Day! At the rate Julian is going, he will be taller than us soon! My best to Jack!

Love,
Danielle & Julian :)

That's (typed out) an exact thank you card I wrote back in September.

Re: When writing bday TY notes...

For birthday, I write it as if it's from my daughter, as it's her day, her present, etc.

For other celebrations when she was younger (birth, baptism, etc.), we wrote it from the family because people were "helping us welcome/celebrate, etc."
