when to tell work
i know this has been posted in the past, but i dont know what to do... this is #2 - dd is only 8.5 months old and the reaction that i got from a few close friends horrifies me. it makes me not excited to tell people. with DD, i announced at a weekly staff meeting and everyone was so excited. im pretty certain i will not get the same reaction this time. i am currently 12 weeks and a friend told me today she notices a belly, so im not sure how much longer i can hide it. is it time to announce? i cant announce at another staff meeting - seeing the reactions in person are tough to deal with (dont get me wrong, a few people seem genuinely excited for me and we arent fully "out" yet so im hoping more people will have the happy reaction).
is sending an email inappropriate? i would do something cute like a photo of dd saying big sister may 2014. my department is very small 8 of us) and we get along really well. Im not concerned with telling HR - i have no problem doing that in person. its just notifying my direct boss and other colleagues that i dont know how to handle.

Re: when to tell work
First off, congrats! :) it is sad that people give you not so nice reactions...i have always hated that!! don't let anyone take away from your excitement. if you are that close to your department i like the email idea with the pic of your dd with the shirt, it's cute and if people have negative reactions/faces you won't see it! jmo

when to tell work
first of all, people can assume all they want, you are under no obligation to tell anyone that you are pregnant before you are comfortable doing so. I wouldn't send an email. when you are ready to come out, tell people individually. I can't image that anyone would say anything that inappropriate towards you (but people continue to surprise me). If your uncomfortable at the moment, is there any way you can wear looser fitting clothing to hide the belly a bit?

unfortunately i have already had inappropriate comments made when i told one of my closest friends in person.. she said - omg what are you thinking? what are you going to do about it? you cant handle two that close in age are you sure you want to do this? and i just sat there with my jaw dropped until she finally said...its great news...congrats. it took me 3 weeks to speak to her again after her reaction
im ready to tell people, DH and i are very excited! we are telling our close friends when we see them. i work with a few close friends who i told - even though i told them i didnt tell my department yet, i know word manages to travel so i want to tell soon.

you can't control how people react so I wouldn't even waste a second thought on it.
I would tell your boss and HR in person. I think telling your boss in person outside of everyone else is a respect thing.

People can be such morons!! I'm sorry you are getting that reaction. Pregnancy is a blessing- people should be happy for you and shut it!

when to tell work
I told work at 14 weeks - only because my DH wanted to come out on FB... I would have waited until my next appointment at 16 weeks 4 days, but I am a nut.
