When it took forever to finish a bottle. I think 8 weeks is on the early side, but try a faster one and see if it helps. you can always go back to the slower one if you need to.

Re: When to switch to Level 2 nipple..
We switched at 4 weeks. He was so frustrated with the level 1 and it took an hour to feed. (I use powder formula)
He loves the level 2. No dribbles, no choking, and a bottle is gone in 15 minutes.

DD is 4 months old and we just switched! Another reason we switched is because we now add cereal to her bottle.

Apparently, "they" say you should change every 3 months.
Also, if you have a starter set, look at the new nipples compared to the old ones. They get worn from usage and should be replaced.
You should check the nipples after each use for damage - especially when DC start teething.

We changed Lily at 8 weeks. There is a recommendation on the package, but it's only a recommendation. If it's taking a longer time than normal to finish a bottle, the baby is falling asleep while eating, or seems frustrated....change it!

We changed at around 6 weeks, he was falling asleep or getting frustrated so I tried the 2's and he did so much better.

Never thought of replacing nipples - DS has been using the same level 3's since we switched to 3's!

Re: When to switch to Level 2 nipple..
we use the playtex drop-ins bottles and we switched from slow to medium at 3 months old. We just switched to the fast nipples 2 weeks ago when DS turned 9 months old.
Both times DS was taking too long and not finishing his bottles. That's how I knew it was time to switch.

Re: When to switch to Level 2 nipple..
DD would NOT take level 1 nipples, so at 4 days old (when we came home from the hospital) she was on level 2 nipples.

DS is 17 months and still uses the level 1. We never switched. We tried a few times but he would gag, leak, etc. SO we stuck with it and it works for him.
