When to start pumping?

I want to pump so that dh can help with nighttime feedings and to have a supply if I go out. How many weeks after both did you start pumping? And when during the day did you pump?

Re: When to start pumping?

i personally found my supply was best in the morning so that is when i would pump to build a stash. i started pumping pretty early on actually - maybe after a week or so.

When to start pumping?

DD is 2 1/2 weeks old and I started a few days ago. I pump in the morning after the first feed that we are up for the day. I am not getting too much yet - I only get about 2 oz per session, but you have to start somewhere! I am not planning on giving DD a bottle until she is 4 weeks.

Re: When to start pumping?

I started around 3 weeks, right after the morning feeding session.

So nurse the baby normally and then pump for 15-20 minutes after?

How so you know how much to give the baby when you give her from be bottle?

Re: When to start pumping?

I started pumping around 2 weeks. But I also returned to work part time after only 3 weeks, so needed to leave enough for 1-2 feedings a day. What I did was pump after very feeding session. It wasn't much, I never had an oversupply, but it was always enough. I was able to give DS breast milk for a full 6 months, which was my goal.

Thats good! I EP and I only get 1 oz per feeding! :( DD is 1 week. I really really hope mine goes up to 2 oz

Edit: I started around day 4 when she stopped latching after supplementing because she dropped more then 10 percent of her birth weight. I pump every 2-3 hours for 30-40 minutes.

You probably need around 2-3 oz per feeding at this age.
