When to start looking?

DH and I are planning to move to Nassau county in Spring 2008. Our current lease is up in May 2007, and then we will renew for one more year. I want to start looking, just to see what's out there. I know it can take a long time to find the right house, but at the same time, we aren't planning on buying now. When do you think we should start looking?

Re: When to start looking?

You could start looking around now... BUT Then again... I wouldn't want you to find your dream house if you aren't ready! Maybe start a little MLSLI to look at what areas you like.

We looked for months and then found this. We put an offer on it in the beginning of August and Closed and were moved in Oct. 5th

We started casually looking March '04, very seriously looking summer '04, put an offer in end of Aug '04, signed contracts Sept '04 and closed Nov 1st '04.

Re: When to start looking?

I would start in at the end of fall in 2007. We have been looking for about a month and already almost bought 2 houses! We do not have a lease so we can move at anytime. It would be really disappointing to find something we loved but couldnt buy. I would recommend doing basic research now on the SD's and the neighborhoods first and narrow it doen that way first.

Re: When to start looking?

We looked for 3 weeks before we found our house

Its important to know what town or towns you are interested in. This makes the process a whole lot smoother! Hence why it only took us 3 weeks
