we did ours 6 weeks in advance (mostly because it was labor day weekend) otherwise i think 3-4 weeks is fine.

about 4 weeks, unless it's on or near a holiday, or major event (SuperBowl Sunday, for example)
More than 4 weeks, and people start to forget about it. Less than 4 weeks, and they'll often have other plans.
