When to see a RE?
Hi ladies, I am a regular on the TTC board. I was just wondering how long you ladies tried before deciding to see a RE? I am impatient and eventhough everyone says to try a year before even considering seeing a RE, I don't think I could wait that long. BTW, I am turning 33 in 2 months (if that makes any difference). Also, DH was already tested and he is fine (we did this a while ago when he wanted to make sure that he was OK after serving time in the military). TIA

Re: When to see a RE?
Most insurance companies don't pay for testing until you've tried unsuccesfully for one year if you are younger than 35. There are of course exceptions, but most of those are obvious - unusually long cycles, no cycle.
I'm over 40, so we didn't wait a full year.

Re: When to see a RE?
technically "they" say to wait a year under 35...but if you're close to a year, I would make an appointment
Are you using OPK's or temping or something?

Re: When to see a RE?
I waited about one year to see a RE. This was the advice of my ob/gyn, otherwise I probably would've gone sooner. I was 35 when we made our 1st RE appt. (36 now). I was temping and using OPKs for about a year before that.

I am charting CM, using OPK, using preseed, BDing like crazy duirng fertile time, taking prenatals, B6, putting legs up for a half hour after each BD, sleeping facing the moon (just kidding). OPK says I ovulate on CD 17 and cycles are 30 days. The only thing I haven't done yet is temp and that's next on the agenda.

Re: When to see a RE?
How long have you been trying? Close to a year?
I have confirmed PCOS (was diagnosed 2+ years ago) so we didn't wait at all to go to the RE. Insurance lets us go right away b/c of fertility problem. Have you spoken to your insurance company? I think that typically its one year but yours may be different?

Re: When to see a RE?
I waited 6 months after TTC then I went to see an RE. Found out I had endo...so its good I didn't wait the 1 year! But everyone is different.

Have you seen your regular OB/GYN yet? If I remember correctly, you haven't been trying all that long (under 6 months?) - sometimes it just takes time. If you're concerned, maybe the first step is seeing what your gyno suggests. If you really want to get into an RE at this point, you'll likely have to lie about your history.

And realistically how do they know how long you've been trying? Secondly, I know I'm not letting XYZ Insurance Company decide when I should address fertility concerns either. I would go when I felt I should and lie if I had to.

I would temp for a few cycles first. Your issue could be timing

Re: When to see a RE?
If you are this concerned, just go and see someone it can't hurt and maybe a little reassurance or advice would do you good.. I stupidly fought my OB/GYN and put off going to a RE for way too long. A second opinion never hurt.

Re: When to see a RE?
Thanks for your input ladies. Next month will be 4th month TTC. To some of you that may sound like a short time and if I was closer to 30 than 35 I would probably not be concerned about giving a full year or more try. I have also noticed that the vast majority of pg women on this site got pg in 3 months or less (I actually polled them). I think if nothing happens in the next 2-4 months I will be heading to a RE no matter what my OB/GYN or my insurance company say.

Re: When to see a RE?
I discussed my concerns with my regular OBGYN after 7 months. She sent me for the standard tests and everything came back normal. I had my first RE appointment one year after starting trying.

Good for you. ITA with the others that if you want to go, don't wait. If I hadn't found out before TTC that I had a problem I would have wasted a lot of time. Good luck!!!
