When to give up the bottle?

I've read and heard things from 12 months you should get them on a cup, where as others say it is ok to give a bottle up to 2 years old. When did you take away the bottle.

Jack only drinks his milk out of it twice a day and I've tried giving it to him in a cup but he won't drink it. He'll chug juice and water out of the cup no problem.

i just took my daughter for her 1 yr checkup the doc told me she should be off , he then said they now recommend it at 6 months i said well that is a bit extreme!! i mean Cassidy drinks out of a cup but when she is tired all she wants is the bottle

I've heard that you can start introducing the sippy cup at 6 months up (it was in what to expect the first year) and that it'll make the transition to getting rid of a bottle easier.

I sort of alternate when she starts showing indifference to either (and I want to use up all the drop in's I bought! )

Emily started getting her milk in a sippy cup at about eleven months old. She is now 14 months old and doesn't take a bottle at all. She drinks juice and water from a straw cup. The dr. told me to try at a year. It really wasn't bad. Emily never missed it.

Robbie has been on a SIppy Cup since 7 months old and now he tries a regular cup.

However, he still has 1 bottle throughout the day and 1 before bed - with whole milk, no more formula!

I am a teacher/caregiver to infants from 10-15 months. Parents bring in both sippy cups and bottles. I offer the children both. As of now, I am happy to say I have most of my kids (at least 6 of the 9) On sippy cups.
