a doppler you can hear early on, but a stethoscope, if i remember correctly was about 25 weeks or higher. i not 100% sure.

I just read in my pregnancy journal (last night actually!) that now, at 25 weeks I could hear it with a stethascope.

My DH bought me a prenatal stethoscope for V-Day. It works great! I will find out where he got it and let you know.

Re: when should one be able to hear...

Even though the books say you can hear it after 25 weeks, I think it is really hard. Withe the doppler, you are actually hearing the blood swishing through the blood vessels, but hearing the actual hearbeat I think is really difficult. Don't spend alot of money on a stethoscope just in case you can't hear it. If you have one lying around, it is definately worth trying!
