When is it just "too much" information?
Today was amnio day... it was no where near as bad the CVS... now we wait, we opted to not do the FISH.
So we have the option of getting additional testing done, I can't even remember what it's called right now, but it will test for 250 additional genetic issues. BUT again there can be inconclusive results or things that come back that they just don't know what it means or what it is linked to. DH wants to do it and I just feel like enough is enough. Sure it might be helpful to know that this child could have, for example, potential kidney issues later in life but what purpose does that serve now other than to just make us worry. Yes, there are some more serious conditions it will test for but I am kind of of the mind set right now that if the amnio comes back fine I just want to move on from all of this testing... DH completely disagrees... Does it get to a point where enough is just enough??
ETA: It's called a microarray... baby brain be damned, everything comes to me EVENTUALLY!

I think you've been through enough lately. I'd just wait for the amino results...you've been in my thoughts

we were going to do microarray on our embryos and were gung ho about it. Our doc finally talked us out of it saying the odds were in our favor to get a genetically normal embryo, so we trusted his opinion and so far he's been right. But there's a big difference between testing embryos and testing a fetus! i'd leave it alone.

I was in similar shoes and opted against the full panel you describe. I don't ned to know something is wrong if they can't pinpoint what is it or if it is even severe or anywhere near life-affecting. Just my view. Thankfully., DH was on board with me!

I would definitely wait for the Amnio results... i agree with you ... too much info... Maybe Randy doesnt realize that sure knowing is helpful, but also stressful as well... and that you dont need!!!

Re: When is it just "too much" information?
Thank you... you guys are the best
I've been trying to explain to Randy how I feel about this but I also see his point of view, although he sucks at expressing it. He said he thinks I'm being selfish in passing on getting information that could potentially be useful/helpful for our child. I have some time to decide but I really want all of this testing to be over with and just try to enjoy some portion of my pregnancy... I just truly feel like at some point there really is such a thing as too much information.

Re: When is it just "too much" information?
I had a CVS testing and when everything came back completely normal, I felt like the genetic counselors were pushing the microarray analysis. After much thought, we declined it. I hate to say that the major push to not doing it was that our insurance wouldn't pay for it. In the grand scheme of things, $1500 is not a ton of money, but the whole testing process is very new, and again, the results could give false positives or not find something that could be there. I feel comfortable that we decline it and I went on to have a happy and healthy baby.

I'm on your side.
When I was pregnant with #2, I had numerous sonograms because of my history. We had a scare because she wasn't gaining enough weight and the ob wanted to take her early, 32 weeks or so.
My mom and sister both said that a to of a il's probably has slow weight gain. But because I'm having all these sonons, I know too much. Kwim? Like, I would never know if I didn't go every 2 weeks.
