When flying with kids (carry on question)

Assuming you are checking your luggage and just bringing stuff for the plane in your carry on do you:

1- just bring one carry on with everything you will need in it?

2- bring a separate carry on for you and your LO/LO's?

When I travel without DD and check luggage I normally only bring my purse on the plane. I will stick my ipod, my book, etc in the purse.
I hate dragging 100 bags around.

But with DD I will need all kinds of stuff to keep her busy, the portable DVD player etc.

I am wondering if it makes sense to just shove everything into one carry on and call it a day?

I will also have my purse.

Do you carry a purse on the plane or just put your wallet, etc in your carry on bag?

Everything gets put in one bag. The less I carry the better. I don't carry a purse on the plane.

Re: When flying with kids (carry on question)

We all have our own carry on, pretty much. My carry on is a cross-body bag, my DH has a backpack, and my three DC I think have had two between them. Everyone has the space, so why not? Also, it makes it easier to find stuff mid-flight without digging around through one huge bag.

ETA...my kids are "older" 9, 7, and 4 so it's not difficult for the older 2, especially, to carry a backpack. Plus, the two times we've flown with all three of them has been to Disney so we've had tons of souvenirs to find space for...so they come in handy for that. If I only had one kid, I'd bring my bag and then have a larger carry-on for the kid and my DH.

When flying with kids (carry on question)

I normally take a backpack (no purse), dh has his own badkpack and we have dds diaper bag with her snacks, toys, diapers, change of clothes, etc.

I no longer do the wheely suitcase bc that is just way too much crap to deal with in addition to hate checking a stroller and we take her car seat on the plane. Gd these kids come with a lot of baggage

I bring one carryon for myself and the kids. they are only 5 and 3 so I would end up carrying their stuff anyway (well, now the 5 year old could probably bring a backpack...)

My purse... and I usually switch into a neverfull or something that is easy to throw on my shoulder but can hold a lot of stuff.

Then, a bag for Julian with his crap in it. That is another one that is easy to just throw on my shoulder. I do have to do two bags but because they are convenient to carry, it works.

Re: When flying with kids (carry on question)

For those that don't carry a purse on the plane, do you pack a purse to have to use while on vacation?
Or do you not use a purse the whole trip?

I put my purse in the backpack but I only ever have a tiny clutch type. I use the backpack for everything on my trips.

I usually do not bring a purse with me on vacation now that I have kids. I have a little MK cross body bag that I throw into my diaper bag with my cc, cash, license, etc. I need to take the diaper bag with me regardless, so there is no need for an extra thing to carry.

In the past I've done one carry on - diaper bag with my things and DH's things in it as well. Then a separate one for DS with his things. It was just easier to get the things he needed/wanted from his as opposed to searching through the diaper bag with all of our things in it.

Re: When flying with kids (carry on question)

I use a backpack for myself and just bring a wristlet on vacations- that I also put in the backpack. I have each of my kids bring their own backpack. I pack each one with snacks, a pack of gum, some lollipops, coloring books and new crayons, some dollar store new toys, and their ipad minis and headphones.

I don't usually pack a purse - I either just go somewhere with my wristlet or a tote.

Re: When flying with kids (carry on question)

I have a backpack with diapers, ziplocks, wipes, Lysol wipes, extra clothes for the kids, a book or Ipad for myself, water bottle and magazines for myself.
My 5 yr old has a backpack for him and his 3 yr old brother with coloring books, stickers, water bottles (I buy after security), washable markers/crayons, games, their mini Ipads with their games and movies on it.
DH has his Ipad, wallet with my driver license and his stuff, camera, phones, other electronics he uses.

Were heading to disney soon. I'll be carrying my purse, hubby while have a small suitcase with 1 change of clothes for everyone and swimsuits.

My DD almost 5 will have her own frozen wheelie suitcase with all the crap we need to keep the kids occupied. My almost 3 yr old twin boys, will get pushed in the double stroller by me.

With 3 little ones we are trying not to take a crapload of stuff. We plan to buy car seats for all 3 when we arrive. Do not want to lug ours on the plane.
