When does DC go from laying down to sitting up by themselves?

DS tries and tries but all he could do is lift his head and then his legs go up too and gets nowhere

My DS did this at 6 months (actually 6 months and 1 week). I think he did it fairly early. He did this around the same time he started to crawl and stand up.

we're already making Eryk 'practice' every day. His neck is strong, but his torso is wobbly.... he sits for about 2 min a day on the floor propped against the edge of the couch.... and DH makes sure he doesn't topple over

I'm hoping another month or so he'll be able to sit-up by himself... that would be a little over 5 months

Oh DS is 9 months

Are there any exercises to encourage this?

I'm afraid he always going to look for me to grab his hands and help sit up. I want him to learn on his own.

I wouldn't worry yet.
I just found this online

Like I said Landon did it early, I think because he was already crawling and standing... IMO sitting up should be easy if you can crawl and stand! He crawled before he sat up.

I think that is the exercise... just give him a helping hand but don't position him yourself.....

every kid develops at their own pace with things.... some are ahead in sitting, and others are ahead in talking or eating.... he'll do it soon!

oh, and from that article that was just posted, I meant sitting, not sitting-up... sorry!

my DS sat up by himself at 5.5 months

DD sat up alone at 6 months. But it sounds like you mean sitting up from a laying position, like a sit up. If so, then I don't think it was until about 10 months, maybe even later.

Anthony sits up by himself if he is reclined against a pillow or the boppy. If he is flat he looks like he is doing crunches. He is 4 1/2 mos.

7 months DD was able to go from laying down to a sitting position..

DD is 6 months and a half she sits well on her own but cannot get to a seated position by herself we have to put her to sit down, she goe son all fours and rocks and she stands holding her gym toy but we have to put her to stand she cannot pull herself up to stand

My girls could get into the sitting position on their own the same day they started crawling. They would get into the crawling postion and lean back until they were on their butt (if that makes sense, its hard to explain).

Kaitee was 6 months 3 days old and Brooke was 7 1/2 months old.
